kelab sarapan pagi

Iona signed up for Sociology class last semester and one of the movies they watched to complement their knowledge on that subject was the 80s cult classic, The Breakfast Club.

google images

The Breakfast Club is about five teenagers from different social cliques who are thrown together in a Saturday detention class, who learn that they are more alike than different. There's the criminal, the princess, the nerd, the athlete and the basket case (which in today's terms is the goth/social outcast). Not much different from the cliques of today which we see in Lizzie McGuire, That's So Raven, etc.

I tried watching this movie a number of times but due to time constraint never got past the "Hey-hey-hey!" of the opening credits. But I finally got round to watching it. My verdict on the number 1 of 50 Best High School Movies:

A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN JENNIFER'S BODY.

I don't understand the abrupt ending, which didn't make much sense. Why did everyone (but the nerd) couple up?
BUT it's better than half the fluff movies out there today, I must say.

Here is the theme song of The Breakfast Club, Don't You (Forget About Me) by Simple Minds which I believe was the theme song of teenagers all over in the 80s.

undisclosed

One of my favorite songs from Muse is Undisclosed Desires, which is also known as Undisclosed, from their latest album The Resistance.

google images

I rarely say this about songs, but I LOVE <3 the composition of this one. The strings have a prominent role here, giving the song an extra zing besides the usual bass and synthesizers. Another plus point is the catchy beat fom the beginning to the end which is a bit Timbaland-ish.

The lyrics are a bit intense, mirroring hardcore romance ala Lady Gaga, but in a more comprehensible and thought-provoking manner unlike "P-p-p-pohker face" or "Rah rah shish kembah!" "Rah rah rama-rama" bad romance.

The MV is also interesting to watch, though it's not like the plot-heavy Knights of Cydonia. It's quite hard to see what the dancer is doing though-is she krumping? Or is that intepretive dancing? :p

there is no christmas without CHRIST =D

Many years ago on this day, a baby boy was born to a couple, Mary and Joseph.

The son of a carpenter, He would go on to heal the sick, raise the dead and tell people to forgive their enemies.

His death was just as meaningful as His birth. Pierced to a tree, put in a tomb, He conquered death three days later by walking out of the tomb alive.

Happy birthday, Jesus.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

My new years' resolution is far fetched and seemingly impossible. BUT through Christ, every impossibility becomes a possibility. So I will hold on to the only hope in this world and keep believing that God does and will make all things beautiful in His time.

Festivities!

Oh, I just had to say that to use the adorably designed typography by Jessica Hische.

Christmas is less than a week away. GY Camp this year was great :) I miss camps when it ends.

It was my second year as a group advisor. This time to Joshua Lim's Two! Woohoo!

And tuck shop with Penny and Co. was superbly fun. Like kooperasi days.

There are so many books to check out! Gosh! And I'm sick after camp xD must be the back to back activities with no rest since MC. Hope it's not the *oinkoink* flu.

Yesterday night was spent getting lost in KL/Bangsar area with mum. Because I KNOW how to get to Damansara using NKVE, but used Federal instead. Gosh. So confusing!
But I thank God so much that we managed to get into the cinema in time with tickets from MHz (distributor of Muallaf) because KLue ignored us. Huahua.

Picca post! All from the handphone.

The main building where everything happens, and a view of the marina/sea

Cindai Ballroom and the sea as seen from the second floor VIP lounge

Apabila cuaca musim tengkujuh melanda...

Cartrade Group was a major sponsor. I counted 12 VW Touaregs. (Uhm, that's not mine, it just has my handphone number on the number plate.)

The best view for matches is always from the third floor media center

All the yatches used were of the F36 model. It's kind of like F1 where the vehicles are all standard for all teams, and victory is only for the tactically intelligent team. Here's a small scale model in the exhibition hall:

The champion of Monsoon Cup 09 and the overall champion of World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) were New Zealand's BlackMatch Racing Team led by Adam Minoprio. (But Mirsky Racing Team were the crowd favorite ;))

The people I worked with were smashing :) Most of them were from KL, a significant number of them were of mixed parentage, a few were from UIA, some of them were very responsible and fun to work with, most were still studying, and 90% of them smoke.
My dad would fit right in xD

the bearded fox

So many things happened in the days culminating to the Monsoon Cup, nevermind the event days itself. It really is a blessing to be able to work at this prestigious (although slightly unknown) event. If I were to blog about it, ah, it will take days. So I might be posting up bits and pieces that happened along the way.

Since my station was in the exhibition hall, I got to see lots of the events happening there. Like the 1Malaysia 1Culture dance thingy. The dances, I tell you, chunted gila. The different dancing groups went all out to produce the most "1Malaysia" dance. A bit cliched lah when you see the Malay dance, then the Chinese fan dance followed by the Indian "pot tembaga" dance.

The champions-DBI. Image from Sub Zero Images

But dance enthusiasts, like the cultural group from secondary schools, can learn a lot if they watch. They even had the choreographer from Citrawarna to judge.

So the winners were this group who had a stunning but epileptic inducing performance (due to their haphazardly dyed costumes) - Dewan Bandaraya Ipoh. They had a very commercial and entertaining dance, from the snippets that I manage to see.

Oh. And one group's song montage had me laughing. The lyrics of the song goes:

"Mari kita ke ladang
HOI!"

It sounded like some government propaganda, trying to get people to farm more (cos the government also released some tacky songs like "Guna IT" to encourage the use of Info Tech. Remember that? Hahaha) back in the days. Then I googled it and found out it was from a P. Ramlee movie called Musang Berjanggut. Roughly translated, it's the Bearded Fox.

Fantastic Mr. Fox!

wistful

Today I found out that my results from last sem was so bad, it might actually bring down my cgpa :(

Today our job was to watch over little kids play the Nintendo Wii.

Breakfast, though the most important meal of the day, is the yuckiest. The cooks certainly have something against flavor. That, or they failed Ekonomi Rumah Tangga. That don't stop me from eating though.

The weather is very windy and watery. Fun to be in. The kick off concert got cancelled because of the weather though.

Team Cedric!

So Habib got free tickets to watch New Moon in Sunway. Which we all went to watch. And everybody loathed it.

First of all, the plot. What plot? The storyline is so repetitive: topless werewolves, emo-ing Bella, vampire, lather-rinse-repeat.

Then the fact that Bella is 18. Goodness. Why is she acting like that? Is it because Twilight is fictional? Never get yourself involved in a relationship when you're not mature enough girl!

Action scenes were scarce and few in between. Dakota Fanning was underused.

And why are the werewolves always topless?!

Oh. Kristen Stewart shares the same birthday as me!

Anyway, the movie is palatable only if you're a fan of the Twilight series.

hardcore clubber!

Indeed.

There is a space in everybody's lives. W
e choose to fill it with things, according to our free will. People who are old, mature and responsible choose to make a family, thus occupying most of their lives and time. Likewise, babies who have yet to master any skill fill up their time with sleeping or being cute (which is effortless if you ask me. Look at lalas).

But young people like you and I, ah, we are entirely different. We do not conform to what is expected of us, because everybody's conforming. The things we can do to fill up our lives are not limited by money or energy, simply because we are passionate in what we love and have boundless energy.

This is both good and bad.

We never want to see that there are people who think that what we do is bad, because "everybody's different". But really, how different are we? All we have to do is open our minds to the various perceptions that people have on one topic, and you'll see that our morality unites us.

Pastor H said "You youths are so filled with energy, you can do much more than we adults could do at our age...you can write, play instruments, sing, draw, design, photography, dance, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING IF YOU POUR YOUR HEART AND SOUL INTO IT."

As I look into the lives of friends and mere aquaintances through blogs and social networking sites, I do see their passion in the things that they set out to do.

But Pastor H continues: "Do not waste what you have to show off to the world but use it to show people how great your God is."

It is a tough decision to make. The decision itself is reversible: you can change your mind anytime. You can choose to be devoted to one thing today and another tomorrow.

However, the effects of making those decisions are not reversible. You will be living with them for a long time.

What Zlwin said to the youths that day is true, and rings clear-stepping out into the world, you have to do it with God. Because the world is dangerous, and it will tempt you into its ways if you're not careful. So go with God. More so if you already know Him.

books.

Sometimes I forget what books to look for during booksales. So this is a personal reminder of sorts.

Back in Form 2, Jamie used to have these two Sarah Dessen books joined together back to back which she bought for a bargain in Penang.

Someone Like You

and
Keeping the Moon

This book, Edward Tulane, is about a china (ang poh leh-breakable) rabbit which I read about in last Sunday's paper.

And The Velveteen Rabbit, which Chandler bought for Joey's bookworm girlfriend which sounds like an interesting read.

red eye

Hello there! Blogger is currently suffering from an eye ailment more commonly known as conjunctivitis, or an eye infection.

Her eye is swollen, feels like a black eye, is always crying for no reason and is a passionate shade of scarlet. Woohoo. She has taken advantage of this horrible sight to read the Witch of Portobello.

On another note, I also learnt how to make crepes from this
blog . Possibly my second most favorite blog to read.

big bad book sale 2009

Could this be a normal warehouse clearance sale, or is this the HQ of the bookstore in Amcorp Mall that sells brand new books at dirt cheap prices?

Khadi told us about how every book was insanely cheap there. Now everytime I go to MPH I feel cheated.

el-elyon

Last Saturday, I was at the prayer meeting when halfway through, the deafening sounds of an electric guitar seeped through the walls/ceiling of the room we were in.

Whoever it was who was playing, it was some serious goreng-ing skills. They were practicing for the Freedom Rally. Since I'm blogging bout this, might as well blog about that xD

i have wings, and not from red bull

it's been a while since i've pondered on deep stuff. of all the stuff i ponder about, i never bother with reality. because what is reality to me is not reality to you, and sometimes some people's perception of reality is so GAH it's pointless for me to look at two sides of it, because i always feel like i've found the absolute.

And because it's pointless, well, what's the point, really?

i have been blog stalking a girl who used to be my close friend in kindergarden. to be honest, i have no idea if she IS the girl from my kindy, but according to my parents who also know her parents, she was. if it's true, then her little sister shares the same habit as my little sister - they both used to cry after their afternoon naps for no apparent reason.

she is currently pursuing something i should have been pursuing, if i had taken the time to ponder on my choices post SPM and listened to the heart, and what it wants. but then again, so many people are pursuing what i want to be pursuing.

sometimes i do feel a pang of guilt for doing what i am doing now, simply because it is something that i NEED, and that it was within reach. i could do better. but i have faith that everything will be alright in the end. jeremiah 29:11. this scholar will keep scholaring.

Because of her bugging, we learnt how to fully utilise the scanner/printer/fax thing that has been lying around. Haha. Old pictures, class picutures are slowly making their way to Facebook as we speak.

My parents have a modest collection of photo albums. In them are photographs of them, at events and with people. It was just like us now, except most of what we do is virtual. And film rolls are harder to obtain and more expensive nowadays.

the time traveler's wife

There is still hope for models who are not size zeroes! Victoria's Secret annual fashion show!

The ad popped up from Yahoo.com, and I just realised that while the fashion industry is falling over itself for wire hanger thin models ala Kate Moss and Agyness Deyn, there will always be an opening for full figured models in certain niches.

(To be honest, I am very bored, to the point of being sick, of looking at stick thin models who look like they're fasting for various socio-political movements. Fasting for world peace now, are we?)

Besides that, VS' annual fashion show is always an extravaganza to look forward to. The elaborate costumes, the glitter of the runway, and of course, the musical performances tailored to suit the show.

hehehe

I'm currently reading The Time Traveler's Wife, courtesy of one of Bawanie's friend who loaned it to her. Normally I would avoid that book wherever I see it in bookstores, but I am curious to read it after watching the movie.

It is one of the more memorable chick fluff books I have read in a while. (It seems as if the books that I borrow tend to be more likeable than the books that I buy. Could it be the mutual feeling of reading the same book which has already been read by someone else? Maybe.) It's pretty easy to read so I think I'll be done with it tonight.

The book is quite nice to read, with a lovely setting and suitable pace. It's not as complicated as the movie.

I've seen the movie with my cell mates last Friday night, against the advice of the movie critic who said that the movie is crap.

It wasn't that bad. The novel itself is considerably long, and the movie does as much justice as it possibly could to the book. And it is definately more entertaining than the horribly mediocre chick flicks with predictable plots I've seen over the year. *coughtheproposalcough*

Eric Bana looks like Gerard Butler. The author's first choice to play Henry was Adrien Brody. And Spielberg was supposed to direct this movie! Oh what a movie that would have been.

thought three

"Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one"

My dad's work place was ambushed by half a dozen parang wielding robbers today. There were about 9 people working with him at that time. It was 1pm, and something was up when the 4WD drove into the compound and braked like a drifter (you know, driving too fast and braking too fast).

Laptops, handphones, necklaces were taken. Praise be to God for His protection over my dad, because he managed to escape before the robbers set foot to the place and call the police.

I've been praying a lot for my parents this week, and now i know why.
Truly, there is power in the blood of Jesus.

The robbers escaped, but no one was kidnapped or seriously injured.

"i'm so glad you have a one track mind like me"

Today's soundtrack is Hey, Soul Sister by Train.

After aligning the blog posts to Facebook notes, I feel like there's nothing much to post :/

I never liked covering up my opinions. There are so many cafes catered to lala muis and lala chais (lala girls and lala guys) popping up in the Klang. These are very easy to recognise with their lacklustre and sometimes tasteless food, mediocre service (and 10% svc charge), budget decor and expensive prices for the food, which make no sense. The other day I went to an F cafe, and wow, it really deserves and F grade for the food. Give me a mamak anytime over the cafes, please.

Sunday night, went up to Genting. Monday, public transport nightmare. Tuesday, This Is It with the whole family :D super rare, because my father doesn't like watching movies. But MJ, different matter lah. Wednesday, stuck at home. Thursday, stuck at home with a sore throat.

And here is a shout out to Vanessa whom I've never met even though she lives in Klang who just celebrated her birthday on the 24th of October. A thousand apologies for not wishing you, because I realised your email address is vague and I don't have you on Facebook. Happy belated birthday!

Brother Philip visited the cell last month and prayed for everyone of us present that day. As he prayed for me, he said he could see visions of ships and docks and said that I would be going places for God :D fuyoh! Excited!
A few weeks after that I got an SMS confirming a job on the East Coast that has to do with ships and docks! Woohoo! PTL.

I've been doing some reading over the holidays. Must nourish the brain mah, or else get big headaches. (That's true. If I spend the whole day in front of the PC and not do anything else I will get a huuuge headache!) Bought Veronika Decides to Die, which costs RM 34.90. That's like, a huge chunk of my allowance :/ no matter, this holidays must venture to the "shop that sells new books at dirt cheap price in Amcorp Mall".

because it's not just halloween

October 31...is also Reformation day. In 1517, Martin luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of a church in Wittenburg, Germany. His writings sparked the Reformation Movement throughout Europe.

He and the other reformers lifted up the five solas that they defined as essentials of Christian belief and practice:

sola Scriptura (by Scriptures alone),
sola fida (by faith alone),
sola gratia (by grace alone),
solus Christus (by Christ alone) and
soli Deo gloria (by glory to God alone).

Everytime I feel like I want to rant on this blog, and I face this "Create Post" page, all negativity flees from me. It's too strange! Is it because subconsciously I am aware that everything I say on this blog is read by many people, and they are able to receive subliminal messages that I try to convey through my words?

When Sam came back from Sing for her semester break, we did lots of stuff together. Waffles, Genting, Hamlet.

And also, I realise that I don't really know what to answer when people ask me "So how did you two know each other?". Apparently geography trumps everything.
When she came back, she also thought me one very important thing: you can eat mushrooms - more specifically, button mushrooms - straight out of its can!

Funky leh? :D Or am I the only one who doesn't know this D: I mean, I know you can eat luncheon meat straight out of its can. Wonder if sausages taste alright uncooked too...hmm. And sardines. Hmmm. And Campbell soup!

Le college is having a concert and bazaar in conjuction with Halloween celebrations this Friday.

Bazaar entrance is FREE while concert tickets are RM 5 a pop. From what I hear, All American Rejects concert tickets and Starbucks vouchers will be up for grabs in the Picture Perfect Competition!

It was raining very heavily this afternoon.

There really isn't much to do when it's raining cats and dogs and the thunder's roaring in the sky, but to sit at home and think of things to do.

With some imagination and UHU glue, maroon and baby blue crepe paper was turned into extremely fragile flowers.

(The petals are a bit square-ish because I didn't take the time to cut it nicely. Hee)

Then the paper flowers were strung to a string. Just like lei (Hawaiian flower garland/wreath)

Drape it on a guitar, and voila! It looks like a giant ukulele xD (I find it atrocious how some people manage to misspell voila as wallah.)

the secret canteen

On my last day of work, someone told me of a secret canteen that was hidden somewhere in the building which was specially for the employees. I tagged along and went to see what the hidden canteen had to offer. The price of the food there has to be from 10 years back, because everything was so affordable. Malay bihun sup is so random.

Also, I found out that my co-worker wants to be a model. But get this: he has tattoos over the length of his arms! Impulsive thoughts, that's what it was.

Book sale at Centro this week.
I went there today with mum. Nothing really popped out, you know? It was mostly obscure titles from obscure authors with cool covers. But worth to drop by anyway.

why so serious

Let's see. Today was the last day of classes. I have Thursday and Friday and whatever's left of today to study 11 chapters, before a weekend of work. And on Sunday, if all goes well and I don't forget to remember it, is a very important day. Shame I have to rush to work not long afterwards. Monday finals at 2pm, then Tuesday hopefully I get to squeeze in a movie. Also, have yet to buy This Is It tickets for le parents + me. Wednesday should be a full dress rehearsal, probably Thursday as well, and Friday is the day of the big show, which a photographer have yet to RSVP. Saturday, if transport is available through the two emcees, should be at the convocation, cos it's the first (and maybe only) time Paul le Blanc will be at the convo of SNHU Malaysian branch. And crap, it's somebody important's birthday too. Have yet to think of a gift or a card. And look at the time! We'll be in November soon. Miscellaneous to do-s include calling the management of M. Cup because no one's called so far, and looking for a job.

Now off to nurse a headache.

"Don't be afraid," Jesus said. "Take courage! I am here!"

thought two

Photobucket

After stumbling on "climate refugees" in the newspaper today, I remembered that the word refugee used to mean something else.

Climate refugee or environmental refugee is probably the one word we wish we never heard in our lifetime. Or ever hear.

People all over the world in different continents are being displaced from their homes because of changing environmental conditions, such as drastic droughts, flooded villages and disasterous earthquakes.

Why?

Because of the increasingly shocking damages we are doing to the earth. What one man does on this end of the world affects the other man at the other end.

We drive when we can walk.
We waste when we should save.
We say "go green" but never take the effort to do so ourselves.

And worst of all, we say it is not our fault.
Stop denying!
It's time to intensify reduce, reuse, refuse and recycle.

So many people have professed a passion for a pro-looking camera like a DSLR and have the mindset that if they own it, the pictures they take will turn out marvellous.

Even worse, some think that it is the megapixel count and the appearance of a digital camera that determines how pretty a picture will turn out!

That's like saying the tools make a foreman.

Wrong, wrong! Oh so wrong!

lest we forget

The Malaysian Federal Constitution, Article 11 (1) states that :

"Every person has the right to profess (to declare, teach and affirm in public) and practice his religion (meet to pray, worship, carry out acts stated in holy texts or doctrine) and, subject to Clause (4), to propagate it (preach, evangelise, invite to participate)."

And if you must know, Clause (4) is the law which limits our right to share the gospel to Muslims. (If you're interested to know the rest of Article 11, go here: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Malaysia#Article_11)

Did you know that the above 19 word sentence guarantees your right as a Malaysian citizen to start Christian Fellowships in every School,College,University,Place of Work in every state of Malaysia? This means that NO ONE can stop/ hinder/ ban and restrict any single one of you from starting/organising Christian Fellowships/events!

Do you know that if anyone so much as threatens action against you when you meet to pray for one another, intercede for your School and be led by the Holy Spirit to bless your school and friends, they are already on the wrong side of the law?

In other words, everyone is sanctioned and protected by the most supreme law in Malaysia to do Christian Fellowships. No one in the face of this country can rob that right from you. And if that's not enough, guess what? The Creator of the heavens and the earth, Yahweh, Jesus, Holy Spirit - God Himself is on your side.

Galatians 6:9 (New King James Version) reads:

"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."

While, Joshua 1:9 (New Living Translation) reads:

"This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

tee gee eye eff

The first time I heard his name, I thought, okay, it's a fairly simple name to remember. But after a few hours I found myself thinking, "What's his name again? Raydon? Langdon? Raymond? Ramey?" You know, those kind of names that once you forget it, you get it mixed up. Maybe I'll just call that guy 'him'.
"They call me her, they call me Stacy"

His name's Rodney.

The pathway I take every weekend forces me to pass by Republic bar. Well, the sign says

Sexy
Cocktail
Bar

but I think it's just a bar. Cocktails can't possibly be sexy.

I especially like walking past the heavily curtained entrance, feeling a rush of cold air from the inside, and sneaking a peek at what the inside of the bar looks like. It's empty on Sunday nights.

Saturday nights, that's when all the people under 25 come out to play. Barcelona is just behind Republic. It was crowded on the first weekend I went; Digi was having its birthday bash.
"Pop it lock it drop it that burtdae cake"

Last weekend there was an open air concert in front of Republic. Lots of "X" propaganda going on.

This coming weekend which starts tomorrow is Deepavali.
Wonder what events will there be.

1. Currently waiting for Iona to e-mail the assignment, so I can touch up and add a conclusion to it, print it out tomorrow and hand it in. >< And I did not do the bonus paper, even though it's 10% extra over the total grade.

2. This year, I took 5+5+2 subjects. That's 12 subjects out of the 44 that I need to take in my degree course. About 25%. Imagine if I took up the call of National Service for three months...Anyway, I am glad and very thankful to God for His grace and provision. Without it, I will not be able to survive the few strenous semesters that have exposed me to various new experiences. Thank You :)

3. Today was a last hanging out day with Sam before she goes back to Singapore. She will be back on the day GYCamp09 starts. Ah, I will miss her nonsensical humor and her adorably cute baby face.

4. In a few weeks' time, my semester will end, and I will be left with roughly two months to fill with productive and beneficial activities. I do wish I could draw and paint all day long, write in journals and take photographs, but there are stuff that need to be done first. Like, you know, growing up and getting a job.

5. While reading a blog, I was remembered of Joyce's antics after her encounter with several emo people. Then I found out the correct term for the emo-ers - drama queens.

6. We all need to be reminded daily how fragile life is. We shouldn't wait till a near death experience occurs for us to value life. Never waste your time being emo, unless it helps you to live life.

The greatness of a leader is in his humility before God, not in his eloquence
before man.

grinded daily?

So EF, Iona and I headed to Bangsar the other day (will tell WHY IF we get it :P) and spotted a quaint little restaurant/bar at the corner of a street and decided to pop in there to check it out.

The charming ambience with its wood-infused cosiness took us over and we took a booth seat at the end of the shop.

The Daily Grind located in Bangsar is well known for its freshly made 50 ringgit a pop burger. Unfortunately our stomachs and our wallets couldn't stomach it (haha) so the three of us opted for tea time snacks.

Iona was in love with a Red Velvet cake.

It was hard and crumbly, tasted somewhat sweet and the butter frosting was....butter. Pure butter, tasted like it. When she asked the waitress what kind of cake it was, the waitress replied "Red sugar cake." "What kind, I mean? Butter, or..." "Red sugar cake."

The 10% service charge, once again, pointless and wasteful. Aiyoyo, train the staff with more product knowledge can a not. I know it's a bar but you sell food also ma.

The other snack we had was the corn bread with onion gravy.

I liked the warm smell of the bread and the generous sprinkling of corn bits, but the dish on its own was downright BLAH. Had to add lots of salt and pepper to taste.

Iona loved the strong iced latte (thumbs up from me too) and the malt and peanut butter milkshake was divinely thick and tasty. Nyum.

The bill came up to 60++ for two snacks and two drinks.

movie sessions

At History class on Monday, we got to watch a 2006 movie called The Fountain starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. It's a thought provoking but very confusing movie if you don't grasp the concept of the three dimensional plot early on.

Among all the movies we've seen in this class, this is the only one that has a modern day setting and the only movie we got to watch till the end (even though we had to skip a few slow scenes).

For those planning to take HIS109, the pre requisites are: popcorns and pillows. HAHA.
Here's a list of movies we've seen so far (to complement our western civilization leading to renaissance subject):

Mists of Avalon (2001)
The only movie we watched to feature a female main character.

Harry Potter
Why Harry Potter? Because Nicolas Flamel actually exists. And Dumbledore looks like Merlin from the Arthurian cycle.

Conan the Barbarian (1982)
Starring Arnold Shwarqweopsdfkljr. I don't really like the slightly sexist movie poster from the 80s, so this is another one. Yes, there is a sequel. Due in 2011. Dr. Franz must be so happy.

Legend (1985)
This Tom Cruise movie was very hard to obtain, according to Dr. Franz. It took him 3 years to look for it in Malaysia. The movie poster looks cliched, so here's a picture of teenaged Cruise looking like a fangirl:

Gladiator (2000)
By far my favorite movie of the bunch.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity"

Excalibur (1981)
Google the movie poster yourself. A remake of Excalibur is due in 2012. (Excalibur is the name of the sword in the stone. Yup, the one in the Disney movie we all know so well)

We also got to watch a documentary on Da Vinci and Rennes Le Chateau, but I wasn't paying attention due to the repetitive and lulaby-ish music. And I doubt it had a title.

One movie I'd like to watch (which Dr. F said early on we could) is...
