Is it better if we can't explain our emotions?

Are you lost or incomplete?
Do you feel like a puzzle, you can't find your missing piece?
-Coldplay, Talk

What a wonderful world

At PD.

On Christmas day, I had the privilege of seeing two butterflies mating (i never fail to wonder why people always degrade the term mating with vulgar terms like doing it, making lurve, getting the heat on. it's not appropriate lah...) cameraphone out!

2nd day of CNY, Khadijah dropped by to catch up. It was lovely to see her again after a while. Girls will never run out of things to talk about. Secretarial responsibilities lah, babies names lah, the list goes on till the cows come home. And I think I was mistaken, Khadi, Muallaf was passed by the censorship board!

"that's you and me together"

Yes, We Can acapella (minus music instruments) very nice!

The Yes, We Can music video by will.i.am garnered an Emmy for Outstanding New Approaches-Entertainment last year.

Will.i.am also wrote another song in celebration of Obama's victory. It's a New Day has its own music video that has already been shown on MTV, but for some reason YouTube says I can't watch it 'cos it's not available in my country. Uh-HUH.

It's A New Day is more upbeat than Yes, We Can and will.i.am also performed this song at the Neighbourhood Inaguration Ball (What's that? Tak tau. There's also a Youth Ball also, I heard.)

I went asleep last night
Tired from the fight
I've been fighting for tomorrow
All my life
Yea I woke up this morning
Feeling brand new
'Cause the dreams that I've been dreaming
Has finally came true

It's a new day
It's a new day
It's a new day
It's a new day
It's a new day

It's been a long time coming
Up the mountain kept runnin'
Souls of freedom kept hummin'
Channeling Harriet Tubman

Kennedy, Lincoln, and King
We gotta maninvest in that dream
It feels like we're swimming upstream
It feels like we're stuck inbetween
A rock and a hard place,
We've been through the heartaches
And lived through the darkest days

If you and I made it this far,
Well then hey, we can make it all the way
And they said no we can't
And we said yes we can
Remember it's you and me together

I woke up this morning
Feeling alright
I've been fightin' for tomorrow
All my life
Yea, I woke up this morning
Feeling brand new
Cause the dreams that I've been dreaming
Has finally came true

It's a new day
(it's a new day)
It's a new day
(it's a new day)
It's a new day
It's a new day!

It's been a long time waitin'
Waiting for this moment
It's been a long time praying
Praying for this moment

We hope for this moment
And now that we own it
For life I ma hold it
And I won’t let it go

It's for fathers, our brothers,
Our friends who fought for freedom
Our sisters, our mothers,
Who died for us to be in this moment

Stop and cherish this moment
Stop and cherish this time

It's time for unity
For us and we
That's you and me together

I woke up this morning
Feeling brand new
'Cause the dreams that I've been dreaming
Have finally came true
Yea, I woke up this morning
Feeling alright

'Cause we weren't fighting for nothing
And the soldiers weren't fighting
For nothing
No, Martin wasn't dreaming for nothing
And Lincoln didn't change it for nothing
And children weren't crying for nothing

It's a new day
It's a new day
A new day
It's a new day
It's a new day!

"And now, he's wrapped around her finger; she's the center of his whole world"

Here's a convo between Janelle, Iona and I while exiting the ice skating rink.

"You don't want to go for ice skating classes?"
"I will send my little Amy to ice skating classes,"
"Wait wait. How do you know if it's not a boy?"
"I'll send Donovan too!"
*pause*
"Amy is Donovan's nickname!"
"AAHAHAHAHAHA"

Title: All American Girl, Carrie Underwood

since when did life in technicolor had lyrics?

Another Coldplay video from Viva La Vida.

This MV is alright, I guess. Not mind-blowingly phenomenal, because with this album, one kind of expects the things to come with it to be different (think: Jay Z. Noes!) However, the chorus part bears a lot of resemblance to that of Lovers in Japan.

But I really didn't expect Life to have lyrics. The original song on the album has no lyrics, as I recall, emphasising the various instruments used in this wonderful song that sounds like a medley of sorts.

My favourite part is the end, when the girl got the drumsticks. SHO CUTE. Like how drummers throw them at the end of a gig.

it's orked's boyfriend!

Muallaf was not shown at the charity screening (for the Gaza war victims/survivors). Talentime took its slot. Me thinks the Lembaga Censorship (not the real name but you know lah) decided that Muallaf is "sensitive". However, it will return to the republic of Singapore for another round of screenings in late February.

Aand my sister might win the tickets to watch fall out boy in Singapore. D: go win sunburst maan

Third, do you recognise the lead actor in her latest Petronas commercial and do watch it cos it's really good?!

Yasmin has directed many commercials over the past years, almost all of them during the holiday/festive season. All of these commercials are for Petronas. Go search for some on YouTube and prepare to cry your heart out.

Her Petronas commercials are top notch, because they're not loud and in-your-face, but quiet and poignant, and makes you question yourself when the words
"Selamat Tahun Baru Cina"
or
"Selamat Hari Raya"
appears at the end of the clip.

Also, the ads tend to linger in one's mind very long.

What makes it even more amazing, I think, is the fact that she (probably) does not speak the Chinese dialects in the CNY09 commercial, nor the Indian dialects in her previous Deepavali commercials, but manages to make them carry not only a brand for advertising's sake, but also a thought-provoking message. Truly, she is a Malaysian to be admired.

(after i showed the ad to my parents [they had to listen separately cos only got one headphone here], the ad came on the tv!)

On Facebook, you can join the Sunburst KL '09 group and vote for who you want to see there this year. Ah, this is nuts! How come no one told us bout this?

Foo Fighters
30 Seconds To Mars

Daft Punk (alert to Iona!)
David Archuleta (alert to Ivan!)
Jamiroquai (I thought this guy already retired)
Lifehouse
John Mayer
Switchfoot

Others who have other gigs on their calender, but are on the list, are the Ting Tings, FOB, Paramore and Katy Perry (oh can you imagine the hooha she would create here? Saya Telah Cium Seorang Gadis)

EARLY BIRD tickets go on sale from 20 January - 8 February. Prices: RM143 (Early Bird), RM203 (Presale), RM253 (at the door). Go to

Of ALLL the things they teach you at school...

...they don't teach you to warm up leftover food before eating it.

...which was why I was lying on the cold floor with a horrible stomach ache this evening, putting ointment on my stomach. That didn't work, but I prayed for it to go away. After a few minutes, it did! God is our healer! Can I get an amen?

I hope Rachel and Wee Han didn't get the tummy aches too.

So it was around 5.30pm, and we were in the parking lot of Sunway Pyramid. Rachel, Wee Han and I got hungry from walking around, so we ate all the food leftover from the morning-rice, chicken curry, masala, salad-CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP!

And that was the cause of the horrible tummy ache. Silly us. No one taught us to heat up cold food before eating them! That is why the ministry of education should put this little-known fact into the Pendidikan Jasmani dan Kesihatan syllabus.

The food that we ate was from the morning's picnic. Janelle, Iona, Rachel, Wee Han and I went to Pantai Remis on the pretence of having a picnic (but really, we were there to give Rachel a surprise birthday celebration ONE WEEK before the day).
Ahaha, she was surprised! Hooray.

The beach was empty with the exeption of the random stork or three around. We ate and celebrated but had to cabut when two suspicious figures circled close to us.

After a loong camwhoring session on the beach in the glaring morning sun (it was around 11am when we were done eating), suggestions on where to go was thrown about (as the day was still young, and ACCOUNTS HOMEWORK NOT COMPLETED). Aeon...Iona's house..."Eh let's go Sunway!" piqued Wee Han.

Four Christmases, a pair of sunglasses, a pashmina and lots of window shopping later, we went home.

Kaka

The following article was taken from
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article2141368.ece (accessed 19th January 2009)

picture from bohemianrhapsody.dk

KAKA may be the man to fire Manchester City to glory but it will be nothing compared to the impact he has already had on millions of people.

The AC Milan star has given the green light to a staggering £243million switch to Eastlands.

But the Brazilian says football plays second fiddle in a life which has been devoted to Christianity.

Just weeks ago he became involved with the Billy Graham organisation in a TV campaign which had an astonishing effect in his homeland. It was nationally reported that:

-Hundreds of people were freed from demonic possession.

-Hardened criminals turned to Christianity in their thousands.

-Many more were cured of booze and drug addictions.

-A former voodoo princess turned to Christ.

As the campaign launched, Kaka told millions: "I truly cannot imagine my life without Christ.

"Everything I have accomplished, everything I have done in my life was because God has a plan and purpose for my life.

"The Bible says He will do more than we ever thought or imagined, and this is truly how it has been.

"If God wasn’t in my life, then my life certainly would not be like this."

The Brazilian’s faith in God has been broadcast across the world via an iconic picture of him on his knees celebrating a goal and showing a T-shirt which proclaims, ‘I belong to Jesus.’

Kaka, 26, has won a World Cup and the Champions League as well as been named FIFA World Player of the Year...

He said: “If things happen it’s because God has prepared me. God has great things for us. If it’s God’s will that I be there, there I will be.”

"Since I knew you wanted a violet, I’m determined to be the best little violet I can be.”

A story is told of a king who went to his garden one morning, only to find everything withered and dying. He asked the oak tree that stood near the gate what the trouble was. The oak said it was tired of life and was determined to die because it was not tall and beautiful like the pine tree. The pine was troubled because it could not bear grapes like the grapevine. The grapevine was determined to throw its life away because it could not stand erect and produce fruits as large as peaches. The geranium was fretting because it was not tall and fragrant like the lilac...

Others may do a greater work,
But you have your part to do;
And no one in all God’s family
Can do it as well as you.

Eventhough we make mistakes that are so incredibly stupid, we have to realise that we are made just the way we are by God for a purpose bigger than what we have in mind.

It's no use worrying how we can or cannot be like the person next to us, because we're not MADE to be like him or her. Instead, we should focus all of our energies on being what God wants us to be, and be the best of it.

Such a simple message but so easy to forget. Especially when all around us people are achieving better than us, reaching their goals faster than us.

I have learnt to be content whatever the circumstances.

signals of the lighthouse

The following thought-provoking points were taken off Joy Ooi's blog, who posted a devotional by Max Lucado. Read the whole devotional at her blog!

-- Love God more than you fear hell.
-- Once a week, let a child take you on a walk.
-- Make major decisions in a cemetery.
-- When no one is watching, live as if someone is.
-- Succeed at home first.
-- Don't spend tomorrow's money today.
-- Pray twice as much as you fret.
-- Listen twice as much as you speak.
-- Only harbor a grudge when God does.
-- Never outgrow your love of sunsets.
-- Treat people like angels; you will meet some and help make some.
-- 'Tis wiser to err on the side of generosity than on the side of scrutiny.
-- God has forgiven you; you'd be wise to do the same.
-- When you can't trace God's hand, trust his heart.
-- Toot your own horn and the notes will be flat.
-- Don't feel guilty for God's goodness.
-- The book of life is lived in chapters, so know your page number.
-- Never let the important be the victim of the trivial.
-- Live your liturgy.

I'm gonna print this out and stick it somewhere, eventhough I don't know what's a liturgy!

be reconciled

Coming back from college and the first thing I see is...Joo Li, who was my height last semester, had a growth spurt of at least 2 inches. i'm happy that she's...taller but ._. i'm so short now you can call me shorteh.

"Joo Li, what you do lah until you so tall?"
"Oh...I eat a lot,"

Today I saw something that gave me a near cardiac arrest. The new timetable. *bada-ching* God bless the coordinators.

2

The Klang jam (trademark) was really long today. My mum suggested that we might as well wait it out on THIS side of town while the jam subsides, so we went shopping for CNY in Jusco and ate our dinner in BBK.

Now if it were any normal school night I would not have done so,
but I've no class tomorrow.

3

Ah such temptations to drink in the sweetness of lazing around, and not do anything productive. And BANG! you realise that life is but a candle. Then you start running around like a lipas kudung.

4

Probably one thing that I miss, at this very moment, is being in secondary school with Khadi and Daryl and Yin Xian (yes I was such a loner my social circle was confined to the people I HAVE to meet everyday but I love them so!)
Like, where else can you get a heaping of nasi lemak for RM1.00?

5

that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.

princess

Little Annabelle.
Ah, you should've seen her.
Spraying water recklessly near the drying laundry.
Drowning the plants by creating swimming pools in flower pots.

Little kids. *shakes head*

When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."
-Mark 10:14, 15

Hmm. While washing the dishes just now, I realised something. A mindset, if you will, that left quite a while ago, never to be seen again.
Something is wrong when the level of our faith/passion depends on someone in the church, instead of the Big Man Himself. When that person leaves to go somewhere, what'll happen to us?

So I guess we all got to think smart. Think of God the whole time, and depend on Him for everything to go smoothly, not depend on the people around us.

Aiyah...conclusion is, people will fail you, but not God. =)

birthday wishes

James has just nominated you as the nicest person on Facebook. Pls accept the nomination and don't dissapoint me...:(

Waaah lau brader. Are you saying I'm not nice in real life? You wan fight fight ar?! I VELI nice wan ok?!

This is a problem with us ALL (and that includes me) nowadays. You want to tell people how much you appreciate them or how hard they rock, you don't say to them "I LOVE YOU YOU ROCK KTHXBYE" you do it through some game/poll/contest in Facebook, eventhough that person is sitting next to you. *sigh*

We dedicate a blog post to them on their birthday, with a pretty picture of them, and tell the world how much you love them. BUT WE DON'T EVEN BOTHER TO GIVE A CARD OR A HUG ON THAT DAY.

Please lor, that is very-the-sad la. Unless that person is living far far away or (insert some reason), then wishing happy birthday online pretty much degrades the value and the emotions involved in it to mere pixels. IN MY OPINION.

In my opinion, if you can do it, go up to the person and wish him or her happy birthday, and sing his or her favourite song. There is always the human touch that we doubtlessly appreciate in every gesture. It makes us feel CONNECTED to someone, somehow, not just physical but also emotional. All together now, Awwww....

BUT BUT BUT be content in every situation. =) I need to learn to be content.

Godliness with contentment is great gain.
-1 Timothy 6:6

dear diary

Dear diary. Today I went ice skating with Iona, Sam and her sisters and friend. It was very fun but the lack of Zamboni meant that the ice had little indentations in it from the skates, and puddles of water was everywhere.

Dear diary, I am not a big fan of the people who skate really fast and brake on ice till it splashes to show off. One guy skated really fast past me. Then the physics law, the one about the fast air moving in a small area came to pass, and I fell.

Dear diary, something funny happened on ice too. Iona saw this happen. As i was skating, a guy fell down in front of me. Then he pulled down another guy. And they were blocking my path. But I squeezed past them in a really really small place between their feet.
It looks funnier than it sounds. =)

Ok i have to go sleep now. Bye bye diary.

easy, breezy, tasty pasta

Bowls of Pasta (RM29.90++) at Italiannies.
Pick four pasta flavours out of the 10 or so choices.
In this picture, anti clockwise from bottom: mushroom fusili, clam pasta, classic carbonara and shrimp and linguine. Nyum.

Don't want to spend so much? Here's a simple pasta recipie(sp)!

Boil some pasta. Follow instructions on packet.

For the sauce, cook a can of Campbell soup (or half, if you're a small eater) as per instructions; this here is chicken and mushroom soup.

Add your own choice of garnishings. Here are some chopped olives, my favourite =d

Dish out, garnish and serve immediately. The yellow dust is cheese! =D Looks very cantik dan mengasyikkan.

Here's a tip: Unless you really adore olives, don't add them in. Me no like olive now.

The LORD will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a
sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

run the race

Mum said tonight's prayer meeting would have Prophet Victor Kusi speaking.
While eating the bak kut teh dinner, I really didn't want to go. I hadn't bathe, and I wanted to finish up some stuff at home.

Lots of people were there, she said. Lots of youth too. There was a struggle within me: to go or not to go? Ah, it's Monday night! I shouldn't go if I don't want to. But was it the Holy Spirit nudging me to go?

Then, as my father was preparing to go out, I decided to go ahead.

Goodness! The church was super crowded. You'd think there was a concert going on.

It was nice not only to be there, but to be praying for fruitfulness in the midst of affliction. Opening every closed door. Getting rid of barenness in our lives by prayer.

After that, Pastor V related to us the prophecies that God showed to Him. It's been so long since I last felt that AWESOMENESS that is God-how specific He can be. The African pastor called out certain church members by name-telling them what God had told him about them.

I tell you, God yesterday is the same as the God today. All the prophecies and promises revealed at the prayer meeting just showed me how merciful and gracious God can be to His people.

The prophet Victor will be preaching again this Sunday at the main service.

why isn't chocolate chip mint ice cream widely available?

OOh! I just got a phone call from a random 016 number.

"Halo...siapa ni?"
"Aishah"
"Ah..okok"
"Why are you calling me for?"
"Aa, tak boleh cakap Inggeris la"
"Lu panggil saya buat apa?"
"Oh...saja nak buat kenalan!" *very strong Indon accent*
"Oh...sorry saya sudah khawin la"
"Oh..ok,"
*i quickly hang up*

Hari ini saya sangat gembira.
Tidak tahu kenapa.
Tetapi setelah sekian lama,
Tidak berasa gembira,
Hari ini saya gembira.

Gambar di atas ialah sepupu saya punya anak perempuan.
Dia hampir berumur dua.
Sungguh amat sangat comel molek rupanya.
Lebih cantik dari dalam gambar ini.

Ini rupanya meja saya. Ogos 2008.
Gambar itu adalah gambar yang terakhir dicat saya di kelas melukis.
Kelas melukis dulu diambil bersama Susan dan Yin Xian di rumah Yin Xian.
Sangat seronok.

Tetapi taklah seronok sangat,
Kalau rasa nak tidur semasa mengecat.
Nanti cat keluar anjing yang berwarna merah.
Macam Patrick si anjing gergasi di Disney Channel.

Tahun baru Cina kian menjelang.
Bagi saudari yang mahu beli baju baru,
Jangan lupa beli baju dalam baru juga.

Selamat petang dan berialah (have fun) di sekolah!
Ingat kawan-kawan, jangan ponteng kelas.

if you get a really bad hair cut that makes you look like a child...sing sesame street! =D

Iona had her hair colored recently. Or highlighted. I don't know the difference. The color's grown on her now.

She took me to Tenze for a free hair treatment!

But I just cut my hair yesterday and gotten the fringe BUTCHERED...not the hair cutter's fault. But I don't look like that ^ now.

I look like this!
Like 5 years old!
Like Dora the Explorer!
Yay!

*sings* Sunny day, sweeping the clouds away! On my way to where the air is sweet~!
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street!

Random fact: I did not know the lyrics of Sesame Street until just now.

Delicious

The post will be of the various foods I've had the privilege of eating in 2008.
By the way, it's (caption) then (picture)

Cookies and Cream at TGI Friday's
Warm, soft and crumbly pieces of chocolate chip infused biscuits smash a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Drizzled all over with caramel and chocolate sauce.

Waffles at Waffle World (Sunway Pyramid)
Get the waffle with ice-cream. Comfort food!

Any cake at Fruity
Decadently cold and creamy.

Stuffed/Baked Mushroom at Italiannies
Portobello mushrooms stuffed with chicken ham and lotsa random stuff, baked with cheese on top and a little bit of bolognese sauce.

Baked Half-Mussels at d'Italiane Kitchen (Jaya 33)
This one was also stuffed with chicken bits, I think. Baked with lotsa cheese and some herbs. The mussels were deliciously tender.

Chicken Panini at Dave's Deli (Subang Parade)
Big portion. The toasted-till-crisp bread was filled with slices of chicken ham and coleslaw.

Chicken Rendang Bento at Toastmore
Tasty, filling, value for money. It comes with tempura too!

Gourmet Chicken and Mushroom Pie at Dome
Mmmmm.

Spicy Olio Pasta at Dome
Tangy and spicy. Al dente pasta tossed in olive oil with lots of zucchini, capsicum and chicken/beef (your choice) and finished with some chilli flakes.

Food made with love and care tastes the best.

GY Camp 2008 (II)

On the last night. Pastor Gurmit (in white) preaching to the campers. We were actually halfway through praise and worship-singing and lifting our hands, when suddenly the presence of the Spirit was overwhelming. Pastor Gurmit came on stage and had everyone stop, to just be still and be in God's presence. I think he asked the campers to kneel down in God's presence, and we all did. There was silence and just the wind blowing all around us. Being refreshed in His presence. After a while, he asked everyone to sit down slowly, gently.

That night was indescribeable. Truly, if someone prayed for the manifestation of the Holy Spirit, that was it. That was one of the nights where God was MOVING in every one of us. It was the opportunity to tell Him all the things that's been kept up in one's heart and mind that's been a bother to us for so long.
If you wanted a change, that night was it.

We also had fun...in games!

the eagle in you
we were supposed to draw out Ps. Mike's workshop but i misinterpreted the instructions and told my group to draw out Ps. Henry's the night before, which was about awakening the eagle in you.
For this challenge, we were disqualified and received the least marks. Though you have to admit that is one beautiful eagle. So Sarah and i went around telling the commitee our sad story and ended up getting lotsa Dynamite Dollars for that. Thank God! I was pretty angry because of that. don't know why.

Sunset on the first evening
Ephesians 4:26-"In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
