I just finished a phase/season of my life. Did not have the time to summarize and close that chapter properly and another phase trots along in its full glory. Oh gory? Maybe.

If there was a pause button, this is where I hit it till it comes out of its place. PAUSE PAUSE PAUSE! Let me summarize what I learnt in the past five months. Let me go back and say what I have to say. Let me thank God for His presence and His watching over my life thus far.

(I don't share this with people but) I've been very stubborn, hard headed and anxious these past few months and I think it has a lot to do with my control freakness. I believe in Jesus, therefore, I'm human. It's so disheartening when things don't go my way. And it's stupid to hold on to it. But God has been so kind to teach me and show me where I've gone wrong - I believe he's bringing me back to basics, Prov 3:5,6, that kinda thing, you know. It's jaw dropping when I think of it - the creator of the universe, stooping down to show me where I've gone wrong, and actually loving me in spite of it!

image from Penny. Logos trip with the youth

It's all wishful thinking lah. Just wasting my time right, if I sit here and *WISH* for that pause button to appear?

Five things I learnt in the past months:

1. Nothing I can do will make God love me more or less.
2. God blesses everyone - the righteous and unrighteous.
3. If you work for the sole purpose of earning money, what a sad life awaits you.
4. People who love what they do are successful at it.
5. Honesty is the best policy. Always.

Five things I want to see in the months ahead:

1. More of God.
2. Trust in the almighty creator of the universe for every detail of my life.
3. The SPM-ers prepared for their exams, knowing full well it dictates a little part of their life, but not their whole life in Christ.
4. More passion/enthusiasm/zest that inspires and motivates.
5. A whale!

Retribution

Why do I hold on to the past or glance back at it ever so often?

Is it because it gives me a sense of familiarity that I am used to?

Or is it because (and I'm more certain of this than the former) that I crave to feel like a drama, a climax in the plot has occurred and I look forward to sweet revenge/retribution?

But Aisha, that's so shallow! Why are you thinking like that?

I don't know, man. This sort of thing can keep me awake at night. It's so superficial (not to mention detrimental to one's health) to hold on to the past when I should let bygones be bygones.

Heck, if I crave drama and all that jazz, I should just go watch an episode of gray's anatomy, right?

Besides, Jesus said we should forgive. It's the forgetting part that takes a little bit more effort.

"...where did that come from?"

“People always ask me, ‘You have so much confidence. Where did that come from?’ It came from me. One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl … It doesn’t have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see. Your body is your temple, it’s your home, and you must decorate it.” —Gabourey Sidibe

this week in instagram

We finally went for a dinner at Dome after the longest time. It was a well-worth it dinner, so satisfying!

Piglet fell asleep while waiting for me and Dee.

Logos was an interesting experience, so many books to choose from, and so cheap too! Next up: Big Bad Wolf Sale!

The weekdays are here, and you know what that means: Back to back 30 Rock episodes every night. That's the only show (bar Modern Family) that I really laugh while watching.

On a more serious note: The man who knows how to pray knows how to live his life to the full. Amen. Don't procrastinate, start drowning in God's love now.

coldplay paradise

i will be the first to say that i hate hipster coldplay, and am not looking forward to mylo xyloto. but Paradise, off their new album, blows me away.

luff it. i very luff it.

if heaven is real, hell must be, too!

Taken from InsightsofGod

Take some time to read this. It's long, but you can speed read.

------

You know how sad it would be to live an evangelical Christian life in this earth, but not go to heaven when you die, and for your soul not to receive salvation? I think that today you have to meditate, and think over whether you are doing the will of God. If Christ comes today would you go with Him? I want to tell you with this call; Meditate on this today! Do I want to enter into the heavens? Does the Christian life that I am living please God? Today, it is still time to recognize your faults and to turn your heart to the Lord. If you are reading this today, today is the day to turn towards the Lord! Today is the day when you can accept Jesus as your personal savior and escape from the dungeons of hell.
You know some people think, “Well, it doesn't matter where I am going, it doesn't matter what will happen after this. I will enjoy this life.” But I can tell you, to enjoy this life is to walk hand in hand with Jesus Christ; to enjoy this life is spend the time in the house of the Lord. You do not enjoy this life in the bar, with liquor, or with women. You enjoy it in the house of the Lord. Unlike those who come to the house of the Lord just for some nice moments, we have to look for the Lord in spirit and in truth, asking Him for mercy for those who are still walking on roads of death and sin.

...We arrived at a place where a woman was acting like she was reading the Word of God, and preaching about John 3:16. She said: " For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” I asked the Lord, "Why is this woman here if she can remember what she preached about and she gave the gospel message? Why is she in this place?" He answered and said, "Because she could never forgive her husband; she never managed to forgive her husband." (Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.) I asked: "Lord is it so easy is to lose salvation?" That woman had been shepherding an evangelical church for 35 years. In that moment, her life was passing before her eyes, and she saw that she could never forgive her husband. Now she is begging for one more chance to forgive her husband. But I want to tell you, if you have problems with your husband or your wife, forgiveness is for today! Today is when you have to call him or her and say: "Forgive me or I forgive you for what you have done to me" Come to an agreement! (Matthew 5:25 Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still with him on the way, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison).

...How are you living your life? How do you want to spend eternity? I have a biological brother that says: "The day that I die, I will go to hell and let the demons poke me with the coals, and I will help the demons to poke the coals in the fire." But let me tell you that the judgment of the Lord has come upon him. While I am recording this message he is lying down with AIDS in his body, and is now begging God for a chance. He turned his heart to the Lord and converted because he does not think the same way anymore. Now he does not want to go that place of torment. Now, he doesn't find it easy to open his mouth and say that he will let the demons poke him with the coals. It is not the same to say I want to go there and be tormented, than to really be in that place of torment. Because of the mercy of God, my brother has accepted Jesus as the savior of his life. But I want to tell you something and listen to me carefully. My brother had the chance because that illness was progressing in his life. But how or when are you going to die? Will you have another opportunity besides this moment to ask the Lord to forgive you or will you die instantly without time to ask the Lord for forgiveness? Please meditate in this moment! How long your life will last?

... Listen to this! This is not a movie! This is not an invention or a fairy tale. This is something that really happened! This is something that happened in my life!

Thursdays thoughts, today

Haiya, see la, say want to start on the music challenge, tak buat pun. Ok, tomorrow, I'll answer the 7 days worth. Hopefully :x

On another note, I'm reading ecclesiastes. I am relishing the simple but easily forgotten wisdom that the wise writer wrote about; imploring us to enjoy our lifes' days while still using our discernment and judgement in everyday choices.

There is so much to be done, so much more to be done, if we start to think about others and not on our own well-being. I pray the Lord help us to forgive those who've hurt us, as he has forgiven us of all our shortfalls! For who can stand in his presence, without his grace? May he erase all our past memories that were bitter and horrid. May he wash our hearts and make us pure. May he give us the ability to reach out and accept his second chances.

I am so glad that God is God and I am not.

Music Picks from the mid-90s

I grew up in the 90s. Yep, that's right...the era of boybands, tummy-revealing clothes and all that weirdness going on - Asian Financial Crisis and what not.

As a kid, I don't remember actively seeking out music to listen to. But when I did, a few of them really stood out. Was it because of the catchy tunes or because it was overplayed, I don't know. Laugh if you want, but these songs which I once considered annoying are now one of my favorites. LOL

(A study recently revealed that pre-teens/teenaged minds are "tuned" to seek out the latest hit song. So if you want to know if a song will be a hit or not, let a teen listen to it and if they like it, it's a hit alright. One of the more interesting studies I came across lately. If you have the source please let me know!)

I'd choose so much more songs to include, but these songs from the mid-90s stand out most in my memory.

Spice Girls - Wannabe

EVERYBODY loved the Spice Girls. Even if you didn't know which girl was which (Spicy, Scary, whatever), you still had to love them. Girls Generation don't come close to these legends, but I think Destiny's Child was bigger.

Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way

Confession: I really don't know how to tell them and n*Sync apart. Really.

n*Sync - Tearin' Up My Heart

Okay, I think I can tell them apart now. This one has JT, and went on to be more cooler.

Britney Spears - Crazy

I think there was some crazy competition between Britney and Christina in the 90s. Did you see Britney's tribute at MTV VMA 2011? The tirade of Britney clones!

TLC - Waterfalls

I haven't met anyone who doesn't like this song. This and No Scrubs. What are scrubs anyway?

What are your picks from the mid 90s?

Productivity level these two days are over nine thousand. (i think i'm using that term wrong...oh well) So much stuff to do! And my Swedish friend, she's been calling for a meet up for the longest time. I think you know her - her name is Ikea. my iphone was vibrating with no response and a black screen earlier today. sher wyn said to hold the power and home button for 10 seconds. and it restarted! PTL. i felt really blah without the phone working properly, you know. it was like...i had nothing to do. no stresses to feel. carefree but worrisome at the same time. happy raya to all who were celebrating! hope your cookies served its purpose well.

I'm going to miss being an intern. So carefree. So fun. So much new things to learn. And villas to stay in. *cough cough*

But I've also been missing me time. I can't wait for my "summer holidays" in two days' time! :D (actually got a million things to do, but I love being productive. So it's perfect. So don't give me that look when you hear me say I need a break, cos I do when I do!)

road trip, anyone?

krabi

This year, I had a terrific trip to a seaside town of Thailand. It was once just an unknown destination for people who knew about it, until Air Asia flew there and people started talking about it and now there's a booming little tourist town there. Not that I'm complaining. Sure, commercialism has its downside, but it plays out nicely on the economies of scale for travelers on a budget, don't you agree? When we (Na & PL) went there, it was like walking into a small European country. All ang mohs only. We got excited when we heard "lahs".

what do you care most about?

so many things happened today. well, not many, but two major things, and since my days normally pass without major happenings like a Macy's Thanksgiving parade or a Citrawarna float (ongoing inside joke with myself), two is a lot. I want to tell my friends all about it but since i don't be seeing them very often, i always tell my family first :) and God. He knows what's happening, and i'm so very glad i get to share it with Him!*

so many things to do but here i am blogging! only ten minutes, i promise.

reza salleh + liyana fizi at empire this friday night. D, you want to go anot?

*i've been thinking about how people (myself included) think about God's gender. is God a male entity or a female entity? then it got me thinking that God can't be male, because females are so complex, and our bodily functions differ vastly from that of males, and since only females understand each other fully, God must have some sort of femininity in Him. then i thought i can't possibly generalize everything. just because we humans live with a boundary called "gender" (and other such subsequent boundaries as "occupation", "age", "education", "income", "demographic" etc) doesn't mean God is subject to said boundaries. amen? think of it this way: God has to be both male and female to be able to make males and females so unique and detailed as they are.

besides, the pressing issue here is NOT what gender you think God is. it's what you think of God, and what you make of Him in your life.

for public buses

I took the bus back today.

I never take public buses for the various reasons that it is not safe, not as hygienic as KTM, filled with men and it is not safe.

My usual commute time of two hours (by KTM) was cut short to a jaw-dropping 30 minutes. I was so happy. You don't know the jubilation I felt as the bus drove past the Bukit Raja toll. I praised God silently. The ride was shocking. The time spent plowing through the roads of KL, I would've been in the KTM going through the 15+ stations, stopping at each to let passengers off.

I've never been a fan of public buses, but after today, they're just what I need.
*cue silly jingle and cheesy smile*

This morning's agenda:
pasar pagi with mother
breakfast at kopitiam
stay at home

For the first time in almost a month (!), I have the liberty to sit and do nothing, and not think about the next thing to do. Well, not all day long. I still had to prepare the sharing for this Sunday and dry the laundry. And do some calculations. And I managed to send off some emails too, finally!

I tell you...I am made to be a housewife.

Half the day is gone. What next?

Today was a day of many firsts and many lessons.

i am so excited for two dear sisters in Christ of mine, whom i spoke with briefly last week. both of them are facing that part of their life where everything is on the turning point - the tipping point, if you will - and i share in their excitement for what God has in store for them.

God will test you before he can trust you. In whatever you want to do for God, there will be a test that you must pass first. and he only gives these tests to those whom he dearly loves, and those whom he gives the grace to succeed. i hope you are able to grasp what i'm saying and see beyond the present, into the things unseen. just trust God. amen!

One of the best nights of 2011. I am so very thankful for everything and everyone. God blew my mind, again.

Lately, the words that Senior Pastor said during last year's Watchnight Service has been ringing true and clear in my mind. "Everything that can be shaken, will be shaken, so that the strong and true foundation will remain - Jesus Christ."

Huuuuhhh. I like that part about Jesus remaining as the true and strong foundation, but I'm not a fan of the shaking part. The pre-shaking part is also too edgy for me.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

Hello. Yesterday I did my very first shadow photography. Basically, I tag behind the photographer and get the names of the people photographed for captioning purposes. It is more fun than it sounds.

Thankfully none of the celebrities threw a hissy fit when I asked them for their names-they were all obliging and very polite! I didn't know half of them. I'm pretty sure I met Tinie the supermodel but I don't know where I've seen her from. I blame the deluge of online/offline modelling contests :p

There wasn't any "celebrity" I wanted to talk to in particular, but I recognized Dorian Gray in the crowd, and i chatted with him. Woo hoo!
Trains here. Gotta go!

point form post

(long post ahead. editors and my boss would call this a post that needs to be cut into three parts!)

Hello dear readers!

1. I apologise for the evident lack of updates lately. You see, I recently started my four-month internship with an agency located far from where I live - it's all the way in KL! The three hour daily commute eats up most of my time, so when I come home, it's way past 9pm and all I want to do is grab some dinner, take a shower and sleep. That's the life of office workers.

God is so good to me - before I even knew about this company, it was exactly where I wanted to do my internship!

2. My job consists of researching on some of the company's clients and keeping up to date with their national/international development. I'm also in charge of creating content and monitoring their social media pages. In other words, I make some of the status updates and watch the client's Facebook pages. Interesting? Of course! Oh, and and, one thing to look forward to next week is the DC comics event in Pavilion :D Exciting stuff. Tuesday!

Also, I was given the task of doing this. I really thank the Lord for this awesome job scope. It seems tailor made for me, and it seems like I was prepared for this job way before time! Man, He is good to those who love Him. Exactly what my youth pastor's wife told me the other day.

[aah. I left my bi-weekly report in the computer at work! gonna hand it in later than usual]

3. And in the week after next, I will be off for a mission trip! I can't wait for that. In Matt 28:19, Jesus said "Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit."

Essentially, a mission trip is what disciples of Jesus are called to do - share the Good News of God's free salvation to all people through ministry (preaching, praying, sharing) and community work, all by the power of God's Holy Spirit.

This is something our senior pastor highly encourages, he tells us to go for missions at least once a year, and I concur wholeheartedly with him. Five years as a child of God and finally, I'm going to the mission field! Praise God. Please keep the team + the people in Sabah in your prayers :)

4. That same week, on the Friday the 10th is the day of the youth music concert, El-Elyon. Like I said before, it's held once every two years and we're looking forward to many people joining us! You're welcome as well!

5. The day after that, on the 11th, Seenamon will be having its sophomore bazaar debut at Creative Muse Marketplace at The Weld, KL. This is organized by the graphics design magazine in Malaysia, Cut Out Magazine. Come and say hi if you're in the vicinity!

6. I have so many more things to say but right now all I want to do is give a shout out to God for keeping me sane throughout these few weeks!

(a) And of course His amazing grace that keeps me from falling into temptation,

(b) and for the wonderful salvation that I have in Jesus,

(c) and for the blessings of friends and family and food and fun and freedom! All the Fs come into play. Ahahaha.

Last words for you kids out there reading this: read your Bible and pray, pray, pray, stay out of trouble and live for God alone. Be wiser and smarter. Think deeper, ask questions, make no enemies, love yourself, eat more vegs and sleep earlier!

a song for wednesday

today's track is a soul/disco/gospel song from the 80s

Time after time
I say oh Lord whats the use
Time after time
I say this just won't do, but
Sooner or later in life the things you love you lose,
Just like before i know i'll call on you

Occasionally
my thoughts are brave and friends are few
Occasionally
I cry out Lord what must I do
Occasionally
I call up Master make me new
You've got the love
I need to see me through

el-elyon 2011

I don't care who you are
Where you're from
What you did
As long as you love me COME FOR EL ELYON

Greetings everybo-deh!

I cordially and personally invite you for the ONE AND ONLY FREE MUSIC CONCERT IN KLANG for 2011!

What genre of music? I have no idea (yet)!

Here and now is the time to check out what the youngsters at church are up to these days.

June 10th, Friday night - (sliding) doors open at 8pm.

There'll be concert t-shirts on sale that night, and free flow of refreshments.
Partying has no age limits.
It's a two hour event, so stay hydrated with lots of water that night! You're not just sitting in a chair, you know - lots of shouting, jumping, dancing and singing involved! :D

And....a very special speaker will be taking the stage. If you are familiar with the people in Klang, you may know him/her personally!

Exciting stuff. And it only happens ONCE in TWO years!

Gimme a fistbump if you're there!

a post on a post

This is from a post titled I bet my teacher secretly likes the essay that I wrote from Aijean's blog.

Half an hour later, Arif's heard his mother shouting. "Arif! Arif!" shouted his mother. Arif came out and saw his mother standing by the door. "I'm going out to buy some stuff. Don't play with fire and don't do drugs. Don't forget to take care of your sister Laureen." then she walked off.

LOL. DON'T DO DRUGS?!? What mother would actually put that in when talking to her kids?!

What have we been teaching her. Ohmygosh. I laughed so much. Ahahahahaha

im not a fan of bruno mars

a) For the hundredth time...be careful what you put on your blog...it's like leaving your diary out in the open.

b) I am not free! I am taking five before jumping into D.E. assignments.

c) What I like about self-objectifying people is that they don't mind laughing with others at themselves. They are secure in their identity and know that nothing can change who they are or what they are made of, and what happens to them will not affect who they are going to be.
They can be humble and endearing at the same time. And they can laugh at themselves! Who doesn't love someone who doesn't take them self too seriously?

d) God's power is made perfect in your weakness. God knows our weaknesses and doesn't try to make us feel bad about it. How awesome is that? So awesome, that as I am typing this out, I cannot comprehend it.

Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things.
They push the human race forward.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

jesus culture - your love never fails

why spend the day looking for weird videos when you can listen to awesome music like this?!

oh man, this is one of the best songs ive heard.

"You make all things work together for my good"

bookish

Since last year, all the books I read are only read halfway through and abandoned on the bookshelf. I hope to finish these two books soon!

A gift from two sisters!

Okay, the story behind this book is weird. My family used to be non-christians. I always see this book in the store room but never bothered to open it because it was dusty and the cover's falling apart.

Only recently have I bothered to open this book to glance through it - and I am hooked to its refreshing truths on the Christian faith and way of life. (Tozer was an influential Christian preacher) Till today, we still don't know where this book came from or how it ended up in our possession. God's works, man.

This is my dance album. HAHAHA
No seriously.
