i want a pro flickr account too :x

There are only so few photoblogs that I find captures my interest. One that I really enjoy reading (or seeing :p) is Nicole Chin's photoblog.

Her work is so simple but communicates to the audience very effectively. Looking at the pictures, one might expect that they are taken by someone of an older age, but she's only 18! My age! *turns green* haha

One of her many works
I'd love to post one of her pictures up here, but then I'd have to ask for permission :/ Hee. If blog reading isn't your thing, you can check out her pro Flickr account here.

la-la-la-lobster

19th July 2009
Port Klang Seafood Restaurant
Caleb's (sort of) homecoming

Caleb, the bringer of lobsters flanked by two lovely ladies. Kam xia Caleb!

You guys wanna see a picture worth a million $$$?

Wee Han avoids the camera for the very first time in his life!

Why?

Because of THIS!

Phobia of crustaceans. Look at the picture below. He won't even look into the camera (conveniently behind the lobster)

It was lip smackingly tasty.

Wee Han was disturbed when I answered a call from the sea using the iLobsterphone.

He was scarred for life when Janelle requested for 4D numbers by rubbing the lobsters' eye. *squeek squeek!*

Group piggy piccie!

It took me half an hour to load the pictures. There are pictures on FB too.

tea cake?

Hey, take care of your baby!
I'm taking care of it lah! Who put this here?!
Must be the other two lah!
The polar bear is terrifying.
Is it white?
Yeah. It's white.
Boss ah! Boss is coming!
Kill him! Kill him lah!

What was that? Soap opera gone sci-fi meets Lost?

Nope.

It's shouts you hear from the "testosterone-filled" guys playing RPG in the college computer lab.

-.- honestly. Grow up man. Go play Sorority Life, will you?

(Wait a minute...they might have been playing Sorority Life!)

public enemies review

Blogging now to take a break from signments and life ^^

The two week semester break is coming up, and I suggested to my closest friends that we should go stay overnight in PD for a very cheap price. Just have a little fun in the sun, you know?
All backed out.

Public Enemies made me happier though. *fangirl shriek*

public enemies

This Johnny Depp movie was a reminder that not all movies today are mind-numbing, pointless, 2 1/2 hours of fluff and 5 minutes of Megan Fox and her boobs.

There wasn't much emphasis on how John Dillinger gave back the money he robbed to the public, or even the reason behind it.

John Dillinger: [nodding at money on a table] That's your money, mister?
Bank Teller: [nervously] Yes.
John Dillinger: We're here for the bank's money, not yours. Put it away

The movie was mostly around the adrenaline rush of the shootout scenes, breaking into banks and his brief but loving relationship with Billie Frechette (played by the very pretty Marion Cotillard). Oh-so-romantic, I might add. He was quite the gentleman.

Photobucket

His one-liner (swoon!):
"I like baseball, movies, good clothes, whiskey, fast cars... and you. What else you need to know?"

Even during the robbery stints, Dillinger and his pals were very classy-they made sure not to hurt anyone (especially the public) intentionally
and never caused a scene outside of the bank.

Also bearing in mind that this movie was set in the 30s, swing music was very much present in this movie-a breath of fresh air from all that hip hop stuff you hear in 3D animations. Ahem.
The soundtrack's pretty good too-Diana Krall sings Bye Bye Blackbird, and there's a handful of Billie Holiday songs.

A plus point is also the wardrobe and make-up of this movie. The ladies were immaculately dressed (especially in the scene where Billie meets John for the first time) and their make up replicated that of the era, and the men looked smart all the time.

And of course, the Ford cars.

Even though the movie was 2 1/2 hours long (as long as Transformers) I felt as if it was a little too rushed at certain parts, especially nearing the end.

rating: 7/10

Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland stars Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Johnny Depp.

It's the power of make up.

The movie is scheduled for release in 2010.

"look! i can stand a giraffe on my face,"

unedited. the sky was really that pink

Now, I'm positive all of you have heard of the passing of one of Malaysia's notable movie directors, Yasmin Ahmad. My friends and I were privileged to have met her just two months back.

Petronas commercials during national celebrations from the past few years bore her trademark. It is a sad thing that we are not able to see more of it, but I believe we do learn what we can from them.

Filial piety.
Interracial love.
Friendship.

Really, I wouldn't be surprised if her commercials were the inspiration to 1Malaysia.

Yasmin's last project was 15Malaysia (not 1msia), a collaboration with many Malaysian filmmakers. I'm not sure what it's about, but there's a Facebook page for it.

cadbury bournville

...is a new line of chocolates produced by Cadbury, containing up to 45% cocoa. That makes it a bitter chocolate to swallow, haha. Four varities are available in the market so far.

I bought two bars today, but cannot seem to find them. They were in a plastic bag which I hurriedly stuffed in the fridge before running out, but they're not there now.

Can anyone tell me where they went? =(

And I know that it's a wonderful world
But I can't feel it right now
Well I thought that I was doing well
But I just want to cry now

The inspirational speech was really boring. Mine, of course. Compared to other peoples', mine was like soggy breakfast cereal. And that's saying something, because I know that my command of language is powerful-and I did not use it to my full advantage.
Nasi sudah jadi bubur. Sedih betul. Pedih betul.

So I scoured the Internet while nursing a headache to find some stuff that could make me go "Ooh!"

miss self-sufficient

1. Tuesday Ballot for Thursday
Wednesday Accounts test and Stats class
Thursday Public Speaking finals
Friday Econs class
Saturday Music class

2. I just read the lyrics of Kelly Clarkson's I Do Not Hook Up on Jue Lyn's blog, and it goes like this:

Oh no I do not hook up, up
I go slow
So if you want me I don't come cheap

For months now, I've been listening to the last line as "If you want knee, I no kuchi" cos it's hard to decipher what they sing sometimes. And it's so much more easier and more entertaining to assume what the singer's singing. Haha!

3. Mmmm...holidays.

Friday

the focus on the camera is spoilt...
but the sunset that day was divinely pink!

1. Absolutely de-stressed! For the weekend, at least. The dreaded Macroeconomics midterms paper is finally over, after persistant postponements and such.
Finals is in two weeks time though.

powerpoint for speech with visual aids

2. There is an inspirational speech which I have to pen, due in less than a week's time. It shall be graded as my Public Speaking finals paper. I know what you're thinking: crap only lah! But there is only so much a person can crap, and I heavily doubt that anyone can crap inspirationally for a minimum of 5 minutes (the speech is 7 minutes)

"i fell asleep under the flowers for a couple of hours on a beautiful day"

Daydream is a 1968 song, first performed by Wallace Collection. I find the remake of the song by Lupe Fiasco to be refreshing, albeit a little bit typical (as in *rap* sing chorus *rap* sing chorus *here's the rap in the bridge where the rapper makes a statement* chorus end).

Jill Scott provides backup. (the singer at Delucca (Denise Mininfield sang Scott's The Way, which explains why her name sounded so familiar)

There's also a cover by the Gunter Kallmann Chorus, which appears to be more popular. It is used in Lupe's version and many other covers use the chorus' version as the sample as well.
This might be due to the easy listening style of the Chorus' take on Daydream.

Why am I talking so formally.

barbie dolls

There was a Barbie doll design which has fascinated me since I was young. Maybe cos it wore a turban. Anyhoo, I finally found out that it's designed by Bob Mackie!
Apparently, Bob Mackie made lots of Barbie designs way back then. Very intricate designs too.

Goddess of the Moon Barbie doll by Bob Mackie

Tango Barbie

Queen of Hearts

Mackie was also responsible for Cher and Tina Turner's concert outfits.

But...what's this? Versace Barbie? How come we've never heard of it? There's two versions, too! (and I know what you're thinking-the second one looks like Lady Gaga)
i like the first one ^^ very couture

There's even a Hershey Barbie Doll -__- takde chocolate pun

off to assignments then~

why i decided to be a preachy christian

Majesty, majesty
You grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed but alive in Your hands

Man, those lyrics were the least awkward part of the day long girls' conference I was attending. The most awkward had to come from all that clique-y church girls, the Bible reading and the fast paced christian songs.

Years later I look back on it and see that yeah, those were still pretty awkward. But the awesome part was feeling God through it all! And I wasn't a believer (christian) back then!

Wow, this Jesus must be something, to have talked to me at the conference, I thought. Months later I invited Jesus as my Lord and savior in my life.

Why did I decide to let Jesus be in control of my life, instead of Greek gods?

Because in Jesus, I find someone who once walked this very earth and understood suffering who loves me regardless of my past sins and imperfection. And He will not look down on me or ever leave me. It's the best feeling ever!

Before I became a christian, my life was driven by me. I was my god. And I was a lousy one. There was no long-term goal in my life. No drive and no vision, no support and no guidance. Also, like you, I loathed the preachy Christians who tried to convert me into the religion like some direct selling thing.

Sometimes, to find God or for Him to find us, we have to admit we are broken and have to realise that we are imperfect. Jesus said he did not come for the healthy, but for the sick.

I'm not perfect. I still sin.
But I have meaning and purpose in life, and I thank God that He gave me that meaning so early on in my life. It is the best gift that I've ever gotten.

God is the reason I get up in the morning.

Majesty, majesty
Forever I am changed by Your love
In the beauty of Your majesty

James 4:8
Come near to God and he will come near to you.

"When you find out you will die, thats when you decide to live"

1.

Recently, my movie watching partner and I caught a Japanese movie at GSC or TGV's International Screens. (I cannot differentiate both cinemas-they need more aggresive and effective branding) Okuribito (Departures) revolves around recently unemployed cellist Daigo Kobayashi who decides to move back to his hometown with his wife to seek a new start. He answers an ad for "Departures" thinking it to be a travelling agency but it turns out to be a funeral professional who prepares the deceased for afterlife.

Interesting movie to watch. Not as sombre or dark as one would expect. On the contrary, humor is also present. The ending of a life is also the beginning of one, as cliched as it may sound.

An interesting scene I found in this movie is when Mika, Daigo's wife, follows him to funerals eventhough she was pregnant. In cultures like ours, pregnant people are barred from going to funerals as funerals have an air of morbidity and bad luck surrounding it. This was a change-it showed us that everybody goes through the cycle of life all the time, and going to a funeral is a sign of respect to the deceased and has little or no effect on the idea of "luck".

The old guy who plays the mentor has that Dumbledore air around him-you know, leading, caring and wise. The actor who plays Daigo is cute. hehe.

Okuribito won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year (2009).

2.

Veronika Decides To Die is a Paulo Coelho bestseller that centers around Veronika, who one morning decides to kill herself simply because there wasn't anything else to live for in her life (or so she thinks).

To do so, she takes sleeping pills. However, the outcome is ugly: not only was she unsuccessful in her suicide attempt, but she has only five days to live.

I've wanted to read this book but couldn't bring myself to part with $$ to buy it *blush* ANYHOO Hollywood's making a movie out of it. Gasp.

Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as Veronika, the movie with the same name as the book is due to be released in November 2009 in the States.

3.

Johnny Depp movie. FULLSTOP. Oh wait. Coming soon.

this posts' title: Veronika Decides To Die tagline.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it."

passion is important in anything that you do

google images

Unlike most people, I did not mind (and do not mind) it when radio stations, MTV and Channel V played nothing but Michael Jackson hits all day long last week as a mark of respect for the entertainer's demise.

I believe that he was one of the few performers who really knew the kind of music he was making, and he truly enjoyed performing. As a result of that passion, his songs are remarkably entertaining, classy and timeless, so unlike the music these days that harp on womanizers and us being made by rock stars and kissing people through their cellphones.

adam lambert and the rolling stone

google images

Kris Allen has yet to be sighted on any magazine cover, while Lambert is already on the cover of Rolling Stone.

Abba sings the winner takes it all. Could they have been wrong all these years?

blackberry and apple (pie)

I wonder about that too...sometimes they make it sound like gay people have special privileges that others do not. Isn't that discrimination as well?

When I go out to eat, I cannot help but rate the service of the staff at restaurants that charge that 10% service charge. Because

a) I am the customer. The customer is always critical but right.
b) Some restaurants are GILA expensive.
c) I work hard for my money (or my parents do) and I deserve, at the very least, decent service.
d) I am forking out 10% of the bill for service tax, which will go to the pockets of staff in their salaries.
e) The staff in the restaurants have to work hard for their money.
f) Ms. Susan always tells us to rate the service of other F&B outlets.

So far, I've yet to seen any remarkable service, let alone decent, in any outlets in Klang. Absolutely dissapointing. Well, Starbucks does have friendly baristas. (Actually kan, a smile is all they can offer as an apology for squeezing your every cent for that Frap)

Ivy mamak in Pandamaran has spectacular service by its foreign staff, and they don't even charge the service tax!
