public enemies review

Blogging now to take a break from signments and life ^^

The two week semester break is coming up, and I suggested to my closest friends that we should go stay overnight in PD for a very cheap price. Just have a little fun in the sun, you know?
All backed out.

Public Enemies made me happier though. *fangirl shriek*

public enemies

This Johnny Depp movie was a reminder that not all movies today are mind-numbing, pointless, 2 1/2 hours of fluff and 5 minutes of Megan Fox and her boobs.

There wasn't much emphasis on how John Dillinger gave back the money he robbed to the public, or even the reason behind it.

John Dillinger: [nodding at money on a table] That's your money, mister?
Bank Teller: [nervously] Yes.
John Dillinger: We're here for the bank's money, not yours. Put it away

The movie was mostly around the adrenaline rush of the shootout scenes, breaking into banks and his brief but loving relationship with Billie Frechette (played by the very pretty Marion Cotillard). Oh-so-romantic, I might add. He was quite the gentleman.

His one-liner (swoon!):
"I like baseball, movies, good clothes, whiskey, fast cars... and you. What else you need to know?"

Even during the robbery stints, Dillinger and his pals were very classy-they made sure not to hurt anyone (especially the public) intentionally
and never caused a scene outside of the bank.

Also bearing in mind that this movie was set in the 30s, swing music was very much present in this movie-a breath of fresh air from all that hip hop stuff you hear in 3D animations. Ahem.
The soundtrack's pretty good too-Diana Krall sings Bye Bye Blackbird, and there's a handful of Billie Holiday songs.

A plus point is also the wardrobe and make-up of this movie. The ladies were immaculately dressed (especially in the scene where Billie meets John for the first time) and their make up replicated that of the era, and the men looked smart all the time.

And of course, the Ford cars.

Even though the movie was 2 1/2 hours long (as long as Transformers) I felt as if it was a little too rushed at certain parts, especially nearing the end.

rating: 7/10

Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland stars Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and Johnny Depp.

It's the power of make up.
