waterfall

after going through one of the busiest weekends thus far this year, one thing popped into my head: a jump into a nice, cool, waterfall in the morning, just after dawn. there was this one very small waterfall my family used to go on sundays-it's somewhere along the way to ulu yam. the water is refreshingly cool and so clear, you can see the bottom of the lake. the stones at the bottom are slippery and slimy with moss, with its beautiful shade of grey and dark green. the waterfall is just off the shoulder of a street, and all around is just nature-fat trees with big shady leaves, and the lake tapers off to a small, shallow river, leading underground to a big drain. it was so much fun for us kids to lie down there on the rocks with water rushing around us, sometimes hearing the sound of cars passing by the road above us.

wah lau, i'm getting old.

hoeegarden, B52, JD + coke

Hey boys and girls!

I am covered with rashes all over. Red splotches that seem to itch every second. I've been smothering myself with calamine lotion, but the pain is relieved only for a while.

Where did I get the rashes, you ask? From alcohol consumption! That's right. See, when your body is not used to foreign substances (especially substances that can make you high), and you consume it, naturally your body's defense mechanism will kick in. In other words, an alllergic reaction that saves your life. Awesome, huh?

Well, I am here to tell you NOT to go around drinking alcohol excessively, 'cos it ain't cool and it's not the only thing that can give you a temporary high. (window shopping has a similar effect, but less harmful)

And as I have someone in my family who is dependent on alcohol every night, I THINK I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO SAY WHAT I'M SAYING NOW-think before you down that drink.

People everywhere cover up their sorrows with so many things-music, movies, food, clothes, online gaming-and all these are bad for you in the long run. Temporal highs do not bring you very far. I am still struggling with some of these addictions myself, and as I love you young people very much, I am telling you, don't get too involved with things that are not worth it.

Happiness depends on happenings. Joy comes from the LORD.

(I'm truly sorry for you if you think I am condemning your lifestyle. This is by far one of the hardest issues to tackle-if I seem insensitive to you, you may take it as an offense. Take it as you may. I am not trying to change you, I am just sharing my views on certain things that destroys people's lives.)

fullhouse

Thank You Dad in Heaven for a wonderful day today. You have taught me many things, and one of it is to ENJOY. Be it the little things in life, or enjoy the unhassled rhythms of grace-to enjoy every moment and make it precious, because You have created us to be delighted in by You, and created delights for us to thank You for.

I missed breakfast when I woke up today. Then had a lovely nasi lemak brunch with Janelle and Elvina. After that, Amanda, Iona and I went off in search of Samantha in Subang. We were dressed the same, too: black shirts, jeans and slippers! We picked up Emily for lunch, and spent the rest of the afternoon in the hall. Each of us napped at one time or another. So cute.

In the later part of the evening, you can go to Facebook to see what I was up to. :P

I have three tests to study for next week, and three assignments (or more-I forgot) are due the week after that. One thing I tend to do is worry and fret about if I am going to get it done well and on time. Today, I left it to God-if He arranged this day, I can be sure He will arrange my days to come, to give me time to finish what I need to do.

Good night, sunshine!

21, 23, 28 may birthdays

I know a girl
She puts the color inside of my world

Nisha turned 20 yesterday! Happy birthday girl. If you're reading this, come find me on Sunday for your card ;) Me and her go back to 2004. We started out as classmates who annoyed each other on ends, actually. Haha! Adolescence. Now I don't see her as much, but when she's around, man, she spices up the place like nobody's business.

Oh, you see that skin?
It's the same she's been standing in

Two hours later, in a different continent, Su Ling has just turned 20 as well! Dear Su Ling, you are blogging more often in Aussie than you do in Malaysia. Hehe. All of us are loving and missing you :) In the picture above, I think you were doing a mass comm assignment with PL's camera. And Joyce was your subject.

But she's just like a maze
Where all of the walls all continually change

I don't have a picture of Sam now. Sorry. But she likes ADORES babies. So here's a picture of my cousin's daughter, who is not my niece, but my cousin's daughter.

I am waiting for Sam to reply my SMS. Instead of a reply from her, an Indonesian number tells me I have won $10,000 (currency not stated) from Power Root. Oh-kay...By the way, friends of Sam, she turns the big 2-0 this coming public holiday. She would like presents that reflect her personality. Like a gigantic soft toy.

Boys, you can break
You'll find out how much they can take
Boys will be strong
And boys soldier on
But boys would be gone without the warmth from
A womans good, good heart

Joyce in Su Ling's assignment.

Hmm, this post feels sappy! It's alright, though. Sappiness is a forte! And John Mayer's Daughters is a very sappy song, too.

anthropologie

Soaring Pistachio Platforms from Anthropologie

The items at US clothing and lifestyle shop Anthropologie are so artistic. Aesthetically pleasing, like modern art pieces. Even their gift wrap service is unique!

But, most of the items can burn a whole in your pocket. Think: USD 200 for a pair of shoes.

There's plenty of Anthro outlets in the US, Canada and UK but none beyond that. Online shopping is possible, but they don't ship to Malaysia.

in case i forget

ZW recommended to watch this video. I'm not a fan of uber long videos, but this short movie is simply engaging.

'When Five Fell’

The heartfelt narrative, stunning imagery and hauntingly beautiful music. Another amazing short by Wong Fu Productions. This short is told from the perspective of five household objects, each expressing their feelings for their owner. And the objects represent people who have fallen in and out of love.

Glasses - “If I’m meant for anything, it is to show her the world.”
Telephone - “I wished I could have been there. Because stories aren’t always enough and words can only go so far.”
Umbrella - “If you hold my hand, I’ll be yours forever.”
Scarf - “Anyone can look from a distance; a stranger can look from a distance. What’s so special about that? But to know her scent, means something else. It means, we’ve been close.”
Cup - “Ask me what the perfect date tastes like, and I’ll say, her lips.”

the sea

You know what would be nice?

underwater photographer Elena Kalis via pixiome.fr

The way sunlight dances through seawater, illuminating all that lives beneath the waves. The salty taste of the water, the way it dries up your skin. And the movement of the sand under your feet, moving in sync with the waves. Of course, who can forget the melodic, majestic sound of the waves crashing against the sandy banks, possibly the only thing that can keep its unhassled rhythm amidst the beats of life these days.

Floating and dancing in water. Makes one feel light and weightless, probably the closest to flying we'll ever experience.

And the solitude. O, the solitude of being alone!

Yup, assignments are piling up to here. And I am (trying) avoiding it. At the same time polishing my Engrish language command. Iron Man 2 was entertaining. Iced White Chocolate Coffee from Secret Recipie is my favorite drink 'cos it comes with bits of white chocolate.

If this made her blush, you should read it too!

Support Miss Petite, support Seenamon, support handmade!

The handmade movement's taking some time to move in Malaysia. YOU can do something about it!

Buying handmade:
Supports the jewelry maker
Decreases carbon footprint, because handmades produce less carbon than factory made
Means you get a one-off, unique piece
You won't find somebody else wearing the same piece
Customization possible

The new collections are simply. Charming. Purple and black dominates in one, and the other is inspired by a local movie that made waves in the entertainment industry recently!

heart of repentance

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp--
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.

Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
God must've made a mistake.

'And why is everyone so quiet,
So somber - give me a clue.'
'Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock.
No one thought they'd be seeing you.'

JUDGE NOT!!

Remember...Just going to church doesn't make you a
Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

Every saint has a PAST.
Every sinner has a FUTURE!
Now it's your turn. Share this poem.

little things

i am thankful for the sense of touch. without it, i would go around holding hot pots, getting frost bites, poke my eyeballs out and get bitten by a rattlesnake and won't be aware all that was happening. also, as it turns out, pain is not a bad thing after all.

i am thankful for the sense of sight. without it, (pitch black darkness) (knocks over a vase) (trips over a stool) (falls into hot pot of soup)

i am thankful for health and stamina. without it, i'd be complaining about being tired all the time.

i am thankful for a brain. without it, i'd be sleeping at 6am everyday, waking up at noon, be awake at night, and complain to all my friends via FB and blogs about my eyebags when all i needed to do to get rid of the eyebags was to sleep at night and drink plenty of water.

i am thankful for people who "probably think this song is about you"

i am thankful for God!

i am thankful for phil 4:13

i am thankful for an education

i am thankful for a fridge full of chocolates, especially Kinder Bueno's Schoker-Bons =D

i am thankful for a house i can call a home

i am thankful that there is more to life than birth, work, death

i am thankful for a life before Christ

i am thankful for the meaning that Jesus brings into my life

i am thankful for friends who don't know how beautiful they are because they're too humble to know it :p

i am thankful for Jian Quin!

i am thankful for food. mmmmm food.

i am thankful for Muse!

i am thankful for all you people who read this blog!

i am thankful for the girls and guys who helped out today *muahs*

i am thankful for friends who love music more than i do

i am thankful for friends who are passionate in whatever they do, and become an inspiration in that way to everyone they meet along their way

i am thankful for my family <3

i am thankful to God, again. and again. and again. never stop thanking God. always have that heart of gratitude. it's the little things that matter. ptL.

hatyai

Colorful cream and chocolate sauce infused delicacy.

One of the more WOW bags we found in Nora market.

Dimsum breakfast. Clockwise from top left: prawn dumplings (fresh and springy), turnip turnover, meat dumpling, meat and turnip dumpling, chicken feet and mushroom, pork, glutonios rice and sausage + mushroom, meat dumpling.

This guy is awesome. He peddles mediocre sponge toys, but his getup is eye catching: cowboy shirt, vest, star badge, cowboy hat and the bonus: a real, twirly mustache that extends past his face!

It's a bug eat bug world. This deco is made of spray painted mengkuang leaves.

Animal potraiture! Hmm, this slobbering bulldog the size of a sack of rice we saw at the temple was very photogenic. And hyper.

At dusk, a Thai high school band doing some busking to raise funds for their club while entertaining people who were visiting the pasar malam and floating market.

The floating market! Everything at 20 baht (RM 2) or less. Tom yam, fried quails' eggs, beef entrail soup, BBQed prawns, drinks, desserts, etc. My favorite part of the trip, but extremely crowded.

300 baht fresh oyster (RM3/USD1)

Rocky lovers, I have found your liquid substitute - Meiji chocolate drink! Mmmmm.

Manicure/pedicure for 240 baht (RM 24). It's very strange to have someone cut your nails for you. You never know when they'll make you bleed or tear off a part of your flesh attached to your nail.

i am not my own

Today I had a really fun but sweaty lunch with a few collegemates (Chia Yee, Pekky, Joo Li, Siew Mei, Jue Lyn & Chee Hong) in Sheperdoo in Centro for an assignment. Oh, this semester, we get to write about SHOPPING MALLS. :D The girls already went to The Curve for one assignment.

I can't blog about the things on my mind, but the word of God seems to capture my feelings perfectly well, so here it is, in The Message or as Joyce puts it, the version with the attitude.

1. Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
phil 4:6-7

2. Or didn't you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don't you see that you can't live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.
1 cor 16:19,20

3. So radical and important, we measure time by His life.
Jesus said, "I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me."
John 14:6

(super big font ahead!)
4. "Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
Matt 11:28-30

anger

Jesus went straight to the Temple and threw out everyone who had set up shop, buying and selling. He kicked over the tables of loan sharks and the stalls of dove merchants. He quoted this text:

My house was designated a house of prayer;
You have made it a hangout for thieves.
Now there was room for the blind and crippled to get in. They came to Jesus and he healed them.

Matthew 21:12-14

While doing chores today, a list of things came up my mind. The list was "Reasons I should be angry, disappointed, sad and childish". There wasn't much on the list, maybe about 3 or 5 items. But if I dwelled on each of them individually, man, that anger can supply power to a by-election campaign! Just saying.

The next list that came up was "Reasons I should not be angry, disappointed, sad and childish" Only 2 things appeared this time.

1. Jesus' one outburst of anger in the temple in Matt 21:12-14, as I would call it, holy anger.

2. Ephesians 4:26 "And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry"
