Made of Honor review

"I love you. You...complete me."

The line from Jerry McGuire is immortalized as one of the most romantic lines in the movie industry.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about ANY one-liners in Made of Honor. The movie was, quote unquote by one of its characters, generic. There is a line when a chick flick becomes a boring movie. Made of Honor is that line.

In case you don't know a thing about the storyline, Hannah (Michelle Monaghan) is best friends with Tom (McDreamy aka Patrick Dempsey). She goes off to Scotland, comes back in 6 weeks with a fiancee. Did I mention Tom has commitment issues?

What I find disconcerting about MOH is the fact that Hannah is potrayed as plastic. Tom discovers he has feelings for Hannah before she finds out she loves him? Strange. Usually women will be the ultra-sensitive side in a relationship.

Hannah is unbelievably silly for not seeing what a great best friend cum husband material she has in Tom but would settle for a stranger from Scotland. Yes, so the Scottish stranger is rich, talented, of royal blood and handsome (personally I didn't find him at all handsome).

Another grouse I'd like to pick on would be the shameless publicity for certain brands in the whole movie-coffee collars for Starbucks (I'd rather call them java jackets), Sony Ericsson handphones, Nike sports apparel, Scotland, and the Figaro Bakery. Want to know something? The bakery isn't actually located in New York. It's in California. I think this is some sort of nugde-poke to Sex and the City's bakery. (SATC mentions a bakery in NY itself that sells cupcakes. The bakery got lots of business since then.)

Oh, and they made fun of celebrity bloggers, too. allthingstom.org? Come on! Why not give Perez Hilton a cameo? Click it if you like, it goes straight to the movie's site. It just goes to show how short-sighted some movie makers can be. All of the brands mentioned (minus Scotland) will not stand the test of time. A timeless romantic movie would be something that sets trends, not follow it.

Something else that's rather ridiculous, I think, is the fact that Tom and his buddies hang out at the basketball court. As far as I know, most men these days watch sports, not do it. They'd go hang out in bars or night clubs. But hey, it's not bad, at least men are potrayed as athletic, successful family men, eh? Not neccessarily bright, but you can't have the cake and eat it, you know.

Not all of the movie is bad, though-the soundtrack is alright. Stolen (Dashboard Confessional) was stuck in my head three days after I saw the movie. The clothes are spiffy too-Tom sure knows how to dress up.

My favorite scenes from the movie has to be the early parts of it-before Hannah flies off to Scotland. I like the fact that the writers decide to build Tom and Hannah's relationship on their likes and dislikes. In the line at the bakery, at the antique shop, and at his dad's wedding. I don't know about you guys, but I wanted to eat lemon cake after watching MOH. (Secret Recipie doesn't sell them, but Dome Cafe has Lemon Lime Brulee-nyum. No cream though.)

Oh, and another funny scene-the men wrapping gift baskets for Hannah's bridal shower.

All in all, this is the kind of movie you shouldn't watch with high hopes. Instead, watch it with your girlfriends.

talk

If you give a girl a book, she'll fill it with words.

Assign her with an essay and she'll hand in a novella.

Give her an empty scrap paper and she'll write poetry, or even a movie script.

Teach her how to blog and she'll go nuts! I mean, THIS MUCH writing space? Is this a writer's dream or what, you tell me!

Brand-On

"But you put on quite a show..."

Apparently Wee Han is not only modelling during Fusion Fiesta, but he is also modelling for:

Calvin Klein fragances...(Work it! That's what I call fierce)

...and Nokia hanphones (so cool it made his scarf fly).

Advertising is so cheap nowadays even big names like Nokia are willing to share not only the same model, but the same photo shoot with another company.

There were also models shamelessly promoting Big Apple Donuts...

...and after that Banana (PHONE!) Republic had a photo shoot for their fall collection.

Alright, here's the true story behind the adverts:
1. Wee Han was actually wearing my scarf and Joy Ling's sunglasses. Looks *ahem* metro *ahem* no?
Too bad our practice was discreet. Ivan and Wee Han improvised their lines to end with "tong tong chiang" (ala Chinese opera). I laughed so hard, I had stomach cramps and I cried. At the same time.

2. Big Apple Donuts were sold before the show started. It was very successful, since all six boxes of 12s were sold out, though most were sold to non-show-attendees. All proceeds, including ticket sales go to St. Barnabas' Home.

After the drama, I went to sit in the most front row (the first four rows were VIP seats). Behind me were around 7 kids from the home and their caretaker. The child sitting directly behind me was this girl with such a small frame I was sure her bones her shivering from the cold, so I lent her my jacket. (Her name's Sarah) And then, when she returned it after the show, she said "Akak, thank you!" Cute right, cute right?!

3. Banana Phone is the song to which all of us ran on stage to dance to. This happened after a short but sweet and elegant dance by formal-wearing couples to a love song by Lee Hom.

A few seconds after that, Wee Han and Ivan were seen dancing rather seductively with scarves to Mariah Carey's Touch My Body. And then, everyone on the floor ran backstage to get the bananas and there were shouts of

"Give me a banana! Quick!"
"Eh, banana fall already lah!"

...as ripe bananas were handed out.
And then..."RINGRINGRINGRINGRINGRINGRING BANANA PHONE! DUB DOO BE DOO!" So everyone started boogeying on stage with their own bananas (oh that sounds wrong). Amplifiers fell, people tripped over one another and bananas were thrown in the air at the end. Some even ate their bananas on stage.

*Ivan and I acted together in the drama with a whole bunch of other wacky people who have gone bonkers. Just like us.

Thank you all for your support. And encouragement. Jokes, laughters and Mariah Carey-ism. And thanks for the lurve! We should do this again.

In front of the auditorium

Taken from Chia Yee's.

"Hey sexay!"

"Now...where did I put those marbles?"

Starbucks CEO, Howard Shultz has announced that they will be closing down about 600 outlets in the US due to the soon-to-come recession. This will throw about 12,000 people out of their jobs.

The article I read says that people are now giving up gourmet coffees due to rising fuel costs. People, there is no oil left if you keep on living as you do. (Sometimes I wonder if I'll be able to finish my 4+0.) For all of our sakes, please be kinder and nicer to the environment. Reduce, reuse, recycle, carpool and get a hybrid car.

July 4th-tomorrow
Tomorrow's the day we have a charity showcase for charity. Haha. It's been an awesome fortnight, and I'll miss the practices, laughters and oh so many dramatical moments worthy of a reality tv show.
*wipes tear away*

Whuddever, I'll still catch you guys around.

Here are some pictures to decorate this post:

\(^,^)/

These people (and more) are awesome. They actually deliberately caused Joo Li to shed some tears on her birthday by "forgetting" her birthday and surprised her with a cake.

Joy Ling and Ivan practicing their lines.

Raza between them. He's a great sport. Too bad he's leaving after this sem.

The 411 for all of you who don't know what's happening:
-An Indian dance
-Romantic couply dance with a Lee Hom song (scream Khadi scream)
-A drama
-A solo performance (Take A Bow)
-A duet performacnce(Back Into Love, Music and Lyrics OST)
-Another Indian dance
-Line dancing

FUN!

I tried to sleep, but I couldn't.

"Is something wrong?"
Nothing's ever right. But that has to be! Who am I kidding. We all have our own facades to keep us from breaking down for no reason everyday. Sigh. The littlest thing will actually be the straw that breaks the camel's back, you know.

HAHAHA got you there! That was the PMS talking.

Annoying songs.

There was an article in the newspaper the other day about music being the best torture instrument of all time. Music. You heard it right.

There were many examples of songs, but all I can remember is Metallica's Enter Sandman was one of the said torturous songs that is played in prisons/detention centers. (Politics is messy, so no comment on that.)

What songs would you be annoyed with if you had to listen to it the whole day?

These are my personal choices:

Pieces of Me by Ashlee Simpson
She can't sing. Why listen to her wail about herself?

Unfaithful by Rihanna
If you want to cheat, just go ahead and do it. Don't beat around the bush and come up with a song about it. That's just mean.

Eh eh sorry wrong picture.
(Are your eyes bleeding yet? Huhuhu)

Take a Bow by Rihanna
Is this your way of saying "I hate you" to your ex?

It's not working, but you sure are a drama queen.

Sexy Love by Ne-Yo
When I first saw the title, I thought it was like Justin's SexyBack+My Love. It's nothing like them. It's bad.

So Sick by Ne-Yo
So sick of So Sick. Need I say more?

Hate That I Love You by Rihanna AND Ne-Yo
Double trouble. Rihanna, stick to umbrellas and other electrical appliances you can sing about, and Ne-Yo, uh, try to sing about something else that is not about love.

Hey There Delilah by Plain White Ts
Sweet, but overplayed.

When You Look Me in the Eyes by Jonas Brothers
Yes, yes, they are talented, young musicians. But I draw the line at borderline whiney songs about teenage puppy love. Boys, puppy love is painfully embarassing enough without this song.

Ask yourself: Do you see yourselves as part of the solution or part of the problem?

Come Back To Me by Vanessa Hudgens
Sweetie, when you let your boyfriend go, don't ask him to come back. Unless you need his help in Add Maths homework.

Stop and Stare by One Republic
Overplayed.

Apologize by One Republic
Overplayed.

Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne
"Hey hey, you you, I want to be your girlfriend!" You have to have lost some of your marbles to be addicted to this monotonous, repetitive, unimaginative and immature song. Sorry, Avril's fans.
That's for voting for her and not for Justin!

Now vote for him and I might forgive you!

Keep Holding On by Avril Lavigne
You wouldn't want to hold on much longer if you listened to this very, very structured song.
I don't hate Avril.
She was good in Under My Skin (He Wasn't was *two thumbs up*) but after she got married, well, her marriage is The Best Damn Thing. Her music...spiralled out of control.

Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis
She is great in Better in Time! But this one, oh man, this is...it made her voice sound so uncontrollable, so untrained! Simon Cowell should have known better.

Anything by Akon
This guy's songs, I guarantee you, are in the handphones and MP3 players of 14 year old boys who want to be like him. (Personally I feel they should be listening to Kanye West or Jay-Z. At least they'd aspire to be something.)
Don't Matter, I Wanna Love You, Belly Dancer (Bananza)...makes me want to smack him. Sorry, Akon. For singing about women and their body so cheaply, you get a D-.

Anything by Chris Daughtry
Now THIS is the most overplayed artist. Hitz FM, take note.
WE DON'T LIKE OVERPLAYED ARTISTS. No matter how famous/rich/musically talented they may be.
-There is no escaping him. The radio stations are going to go bombastic with his songs since he's coming here on July 26th for a concert. NOOOOO!!!!!! My sanity, MY SANITY! Ohilostmymarbles!

One song that I've hated but now can stand is Paris Hilton's Stars Are Blind. It's so deliciously silly that you can't help but feel the delusions of the song. Sorry, Paris.

And Jessica Simpson's Public Affair! I enjoy the song because the two guys on YouTube did, and posted a video of it.

The sun shines marvellously upon us that morning. Everything was perfect.

Both of us sigh outwardly as we watch her fumble around the garden.

"Oh, there she goes again," he says to me. "Wandering too close to the edge of the pond. Do you think she realizes she is THAT close?"

I nod my head. "Obviously she knows. She can sense the water-but I'm more worried about her feet. Have you noticed she isn't wearing any shoes today?" I reply, crossing my arms.

He takes a while to look for her feet buried underneath the grassy area. "Great. The thorns might take a while to sting her, though. And I'm sure this garden has a snake somewhere in here." He inches closer to the girl, now edging away from the pond.

I could feel the blood at the back of my neck running cold. "Are you sure there's a snake here? What should we do?"

He glances up to the sky, looks at the blindfolded girl, watch her trip over a few pebbles and finally says to me, "We should just leave her alone." He must have sensed the change of expression to shock on my face because he quickly added, "She put the blindfold on herself! Don't you think she should take responsibilities for her own actions?"

And there I stood, under the sun, thinking about her. Did she not bring it on to herself? Yes. Will she learn from her mistakes? Probably. Does this hurt? Yes. Her mother I am not, her father he is not.

My friends are planning to ask Big Apple for some donuts to sell at college this fourth of July. And they were hit with this SHOCKING news!

Yes, even more SHOCKING-ER than the petrol price increase!

Big Apple Donuts will be increasing their prices by RM 4 for all sizes of boxes of donuts this Thursday.

Which is a total -_-" since they were planning to purchase the donuts on Friday. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

Did you know that Santana's collab of Why Don't You and I is sung by Alex Band of The Calling, and not Chad Kroeger? Gosh. I thought Wiki said it was Chad.

And check out Boyce Avenue's No Air. It sounds so much more better than the original screamo-ish Jordin and Chris collaboration.

Don't expose your underwear intentionally with low jeans. we'll make fun of you.

Check it out! Jian Quin the hardworking queen FINALLY celebrated her birthday yesterday night at cell.

The fruit cake was delectable! Light and tasty, crumbly and soft. Nyum.

We love you Queenie!

We also played "Bunny-Carrot" game. Whoever made a mistake had to eat Su Ling's mom's chocolate chapatis. Which were...well, I'll leave you to decide when you try them out yourself. When Su Ling made a mistake, Zlwin shouted:

"HAHA! Eat your mother's chapati!!" rather humorously.

Also, us at college have been practicing hard for next Friday's event.

(The one in pink at the front is my cousin's cousin, Rachel. I know, how weird is that? We're in the same batch, with another cousin of mine and another one of hers, who is also one of ours. Geddit?)

I met Marcus at Aeon today, after watching Made of Honor. Alone! =D I watched it alone at the supposedly "haunted" hall 4 with no one to my right or left.

This was what we saw when we walked around: (The guy on the right's jeans)

You can just hear Flo Rida's Low in the background:

"Shawty got low low low low low low low low,"

Or maybe Lil' Mama's Shawty Get Loose.
Only now, it's My Jeans Are Loose.

We (well, Marcus) stalked the guy after he went into the toilet. We waited outside, waiting for his low low low jeans and exposed underwear to appear.

To the guy whose underwear shows:
Hey man, if you're reading this, don't get mad. You're supposed to be proud that you attracted unwanted attention to your butt! That was what you wanted, right? I mean, why else would you go around without a belt around your waist? An undercover flasher, maybe?

Anyway, hope to see you (and your exposed underwear) around. We'll be keeping an eye on you.

AND AND AND I know you don't care, but I finally got my birthday presents from Samantha. Going to have some fun time with them!

Thank you so much sweetie!

Out of sight, out of mind

1. Immaturity

2. Indecisiveness

3. Compatibility
Sometimes I feel as if some people at my college don't want to speak to me just because I don't speak the language that they speak. It's like they want to build this barrier around us when I'm trying my best to ignore the existence of that barrier. We're all equals.

4. Relativity

5. Calm

The secret to being calm is to relax. To be able to think perfectly above all the chaos and confusion.

Still haven't seen Made of Honor.

6. Silliness

7. Immaturity
Oh yes, Ayesha is immature sometimes, and she acts like a kid, and she's such an annoying pain in the neck when she laughs like no one's around her, but aren't you the same sometimes too? Besides, we all need something not serious to lighten our days.

8. Hatred

9. Short-sightedness

Sigh. Different people have different ways of looking at things, right? So why is it that we who are so alike think so differently for such a thing?
I still remember. It wasn't too long ago.

10. Pessimistic
Now you're just being an annoying pessimistic life coach!

11. Being off topic

12. Materialistic

13. Intelligent

14. Humorous

15. Nutcase

We all have too much on our plates now. No one wants to be involved with anything else that requires our commitment, let's face it. Even I try my best not to scream when someone tells me my next assignment is to scream my lungs out.

It's an assignment.

I don't want to be told what to do for fun. I want to be told what to do so that it will be beneficial.

I'm not implying that I don't like the way you are, because that's just you. It's the waves that strike ever so subtly at first that I dislike. The lack of warning sign.

But I guess the signs were already there. We were too preoccupied to notice it.
I'm sorry.

Times like these make you wish for a bucketful of water balloons and a stationary human target.

So, how do you get out of this?

Tell youself you will. Because you ALWAYS do.

Somebody loves you.

tralalala~

Poster from sumboy

It was a rather pathetic silent afternoon. So many things could have been happening on that day, but the only activity to be seen was the toad lurking in the dark corner. He moves ever so slightly once in a while.

The cat stretched its yellowish brown body under the hot sun and proceeded to sunbathe for a few moments. It then padded away silently to a shadier place, perhaps to look for some food.

Whiskas?

Mice, maybe?

Who knows. Let's follow the cat.

She senses a stranger staring at her. The toad. She hissed at the toad quietly, waiting for a response from him.

"Cast all your cares..."

John 12:46
I have come into
the world as a light,
so that no one who believes in me
should stay in darkness.
