monday

In spite of confusion
Strive to know the Truth
Despite the dire situation
Seek to find Him in your youth

How to tell
What is truth, who is lying?
How to tell
What's alive, who's really dying?

(Confusion by Janielle)

why's she talking about this again

The problem with free thinking is that it leaves too much room for doubt. Doubt is a healthy thing. Anyone can tell you that. Doubt and questioning motives will lead people to the search for truth, but once you let it fester and grow and take over your every motive, I can tell you it will bring destruction and leads to death.

the truth is offensive

So. Free thinking. Every year there is a resurgence of this movement that propagates this school of thought. Free love, dah dah dah. Its ambassadors say that it's the excellent and only way to live, because it's tolerant and all-embracing. (If there's one word I find a pickle with, it's the word TOLERANCE.)

I was a free thinker once. When people asked me what I love the most, I would say "Life." Not music, not ice-cream, not race cars, not even God, but LIFE. I used to love that way of life, of loving life and living it to the fullest, doing what I loved best and ignoring what rubbed me the wrong way (read: preachy christians). I ignored questions that I couldn't answer and built my own idols within my life.

(You can ask anyone who hung out with me - my biggest gods were TV shows and Hollywood. =.= how sad)

But when I had that encounter with God and His holy presence at an evangelistic event, my life changed. I doubted (a-hah!) there and then that this "christian" God could change my life, but He did. He is not a "christian" God, by the way.

He is everybody's Maker, whose biggest gesture of love and affection to humankind was Jesus Christ.

Now I can see that what little of "life" I lived in the past was nothing but a man-made notion, ridiculous to the present me but life-giving to the past me. For those who are reading this who are looking for something more to life, I tell you, THERE IS.

Who I believe in now, and what I believe in, has more to do than this present life. I now know that I have a soul, and that soul has an eternal destiny in heaven, and my soul which was destined for hell the moment it was conceived (!) is REDEEMED by Jesus and His blood. Amen!

I'm not going to end this post with a "Receive Jesus or burn in hell!" call. It's a choice that, ultimately, you'll have to make yourself. And when you make that choice, you have to know for yourself WHY you are making that choice.

Whether you're a believer or not, just ponder on what Jesus said in John 14:

"I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is."

matthew 6:21-23

"Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter." -Jesus

This line never fails to instil (godly!) fear within me. It's an excellent barometer of my faith and how my walk with God is. The verse continues, "On judgement day many will say to me, 'Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast our demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.' but I will reply, 'I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God's laws.'

uuuuuunique? loh.

When Uniqlo first opened in Malaysia, I did not get the fuss over it.

I understand if you line up overnight for the opening of a store to be the first, and get year's supply of Krispy Kreme - but Uniqlo didn't even offer anything for the first customer in line, and people still lined up anyway =.= Some up to five hours, just to get in a store that specialises in WINTER CLOTHING. Opening in TROPICAL MALAYSIA. Sangat hebat.

This means, there's something in the brand that people are attracted by. Why else would Malaysians want to shop at Uniqlo, famed for its thick fleece shirts and heavy jeans, tailor made for wintery seasons?

Well...I think it's the way Uniqlo delivers its goods. The store layout is minimalistic and simple, almost like a supermarket. The display is all very industrialized and warehouse-ish, keeping clothes systematically arranged and color-coded. The color-coded thing is a major attraction for me lah. Even the boring manly socks looked like a bargain =_=" Haha.

People say Uniqlo is the Gap of the East, but it's really not. It's more like the American Apparel of the East. Both have a way of making the clothings unique according to how their users wear it. For an Asian brand, it's not doing too badly.

Perhaps the winter wear is selling so well because of sub-zero temperature in private colleges over Malaysia as well. Must buy gloves.

what i made today

Today's buys:
* 1 meter of sequined flowers (half each of red and pink)
* 2 meters of plain, white sequins
* Bias tape in cream

Bias tape. Sounds funny, doesn't it? Haha!

The supplies shop is manned by a few old ladies who could do more in the hospitality department. The shop, which specializes in sartorial and decorative goods, looks like a business that "runs in the family", if you know what I mean.

The other day, I found a tutorial online to make shoe clips. It got me really excited, so today I improvised on the tutorial to use the flowers.

So how? Boleh pakai ah? :)

soundtrack sunday

So one day Crazy, which is sung by Seal (back in 1990! Can you believe it? The song still sounds very current!) was blasted through the audio system.

I think Seal's a very creative singer; I'd put him in the same category as Moby. All of Seal's music albums are titled: Seal. LOL. He is most known for the song Kiss from a Rose.

Below is Crazy, and a cover by Alanis Morrisette.

"...foretaste of future glory..."

though you may expect it, sometimes i cannot give the answers to everything.

"And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering." Romans 8:23

In his blog today, Bryan called for a time of prayer for Uncle Charlie. Uncle Charlie recently went through an amputation for a gangrenous leg, due to his diabetic condition. I opened the Bible after praying for him, and the verse above came up.

"Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us." Romans 8:35-37

in Christ alone
i place my trust
and find my glory in the power of the cross

in every victory
let it be said of me
my source of strength
my source of hope
is Christ alone

singapore in a flash

I thank God for the short but sweet holiday to Singapore! It was enjoyable, expensive and exiting. Some things I found out:

1. THERE ARE NO WATER PIPES IN SG PUBLIC TOILETS. Water is scarce there. Bring your own bottle.
2. The food court food is just alright. In fact, the food is just alright! Expensive, but mediocre. Average at its best.
3. People go to Singapore for the century eggs.
4. You won't see any ladies in Geylang. Only the men roam the streets.
5. Singaporeans love their jasmine and green tea!
6. I've seen more Bentleys and Lancers in two days there than my whole life in M'sia.
7. Singapore is not as clean as it's made up to be.
8. I saw an empty packet of Wrigley's on Sentosa Island! GASP!

On the first day, we went to Universal. Not really. We went for the Luge ride and a Skyride at Sentosa. I won't bore you with the details, but the Skyride was scary.

So popular hor? It's prettier at night!

Candylicious, the candy store at Universal, is the candy shop everyone with a sweet tooth would love!

Mum and I sneaked away from the group to take the Sentosa Express off the island to Vivo City. We had lunch at Subway. Mmmm. The Nat Geo shop in Vivo is worth a visit! Five yellow boxes of differing sizes for $5.

Went back, and Bugis was up next! It was raining heavily, so we waited the rain out at Iluma. An art exhibition was going on. There was no one manning the station. It had marker pens, papers and paper plates. And juice boxes and sweets too! My kind of art exhibition, this is!

We went to Ion @ Orchard that night via the MRT. RUBI!!!! It was crazy there. Okay, it wasn't as cheap as I expected, but way cheaper than Malaysia :) We bought the colors of the rainbows flats here.

The next day, we went to Sands. That place is very very pretty.

Ang moh portion lunch at Kraze Burger. YUMS.

A short weekend trip, but I think we saw what we wanted to see and shopped what we wanted to as well :) Except the Esplanade! Yeah....

Subject Summary 01/11

April 2010 subject summary. This is January 2011's.

OL 421 Strategic Management and Policy
OL 342 Organizational Behavior
LIT 201 World Literature
PSY 216 Theories of Personality
COM 341 Technical Writing

I'm looking forward to OL 421 because it's a fourth year subject and it sounds scandalous tough! Unfortunately, the lecturer today harped on how a student had gone to the head of department complaining of his (the lecturer's) underqualification to teach the subject :/

All my friends have taken OB, but I'm looking forward to these Saturday classes with Manda and Bunny :)

The insight to World Literature today was interesting! We'll be checking out portions of the scripture, Dante's Inferno, Chinese and Mali literature and even Homer's Illiad and Odessey! I smell an Indian Epic too!

PSY is PSY. Lots of theories and its founders to read up on.

Technical (Report) Writing is so different from Feature Writing! This is actually my elective. I could've opted for Desktop Publishing and Design, but that one requires lots of software stuff. And Intro to Journalism's class is on Mondays! If I take that, I'll be having a SIX-day classes week. NO WAY man. Tech writing it is.

My lecturer said something funny today.
"We are HELP CAT; we do not MIAO, we ROAR,"
LOL

"Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed."
-Prov 16:3

qwop pig

"Then Jamie was screaming because everyone was crowding over her, giving her the class money. Then Jamie, Taneesha, Jia Min and Megan were discussing about where I should sit. I dont think they saw how short I was, because they put me behind Jamie. The last row. With no one beside me. Creepy."

From my sister's blog.
Oh Piggy! You are so funny!

And winning the QWOP, too! Hahahahahahahaha (yes I copied your nice, long laugh :))

Hoho. There's a lot of food pictures here.

Instagram is a free app designed for iPhones. You can apply a variety of effects to your selected images, which give your pictures an oldies touch. I like its very easy interface and unclutteredness. It has garnered more than a million users since its inception in October 2010! It took Twitter one or two years to get that many.

In a sense, Instagram is a weird success in the industry. You can't see any images through its website and you can only access its full features through iPhones. There are plenty of articles on its strange success.

Heck, even I wanted to use Instagram when I found out about it from another user!
