52

This year is a year where Malaysia Boleh, Cemerlang Gemilang Terbilang, etc is hardly heard because of 1Malaysia.

It is absolutely annoying to see all these corporations depend on the 1Malaysia theme in their National Day advertisements. Ugh. Get some creativity, won't you?
The worst one, I believe, has to be an ad by IMU that has a big number 1 . Not to promote 1Malaysia, but promoting their new course in chinese meds. DASH UNDERSCORE DASH MAAAAN.

1Malaysia is a "something" that the government birthed to encourage the various races in Malaysia to live in harmony. And also to remind us that we are living in 1 country under 1 government with 1 people who have 1 vision and dream for their beloved country.

Personally I find these messages to be redundant-we have been living together harmoniously for the past five decades or so.

What I want from 1Malaysia is 1GOVERNMENT. One that has the opposition and BN working together for the good of the people of the country.

A government that doesn't give double standards to the opposition political parties.

A government that doesn't view the opposition as below par compared to BN.

A government that doesn't view every opposition win in a by election as a threat.

Hey you ministers, put aside your different badges of political parties and set aside your differences for once, will you? The rakyat NEEDS a leader who is wise enough to not care about political gains.

Live what you preach. 1Malaysia cannot happen if Pakatan blames BN when riots happen, when BN threatens to sue a member of the Pakatan and when both parties act like schoolchildren who only care about their playground popularity.

Your language is unique.
Your people are awesome.
Your food is out of this world.
Can't say much bout them forever bickering politicians though.
Happy 52nd Malaysia.

"i can tell that we are gonna be friends"

Chatting with Sam about...well. You know.

Sam says:
den he hold my hands

i look at him

then i clap my hands ah

then he oso clap clap

so cute

i wan

And after chatting with her, I found this on camesawconcurred.blogspot.com:

post title: The White Stripes-We Are Going To Be Friends (who knew they could sing this kinda sappy songs?)

"3 little birds, sat on my window..."

"...and they told me to take it easy,"

"...and they told me I don't have to worry," *thanks Jue Lyn!*

Woah. Birds can speak? Wise words. Take it easy. The ninth month of the year is nearly here, and along with it, the birthdays of some of my favorite people! Off the top of my head, U-Mae, Janielle, Bawanie and Jue Lyn.

These little birds are here to wish you a warm HI! if you're a first time or regular visitor to this blog.

Like you, they love reading books...

and spend a fair amount of time on Facebook. Cheeky.

The birds' favorite song is of course, Corinne Bailey Rae's Put Your Records On.

And their favorite scripture is Matthew 6:25-26 which goes:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

The birds wish you have a wonderful rest of the week! *chirp chirp*

la vie en rose

It's a Sunday. A very busy day indeed.

Is it me, or does the Photobucket page seem very juvenile?

Tomorrow's Monday, which means, the auditions for Selangor Philharmonic Society's Choir for Christmas 2009 is going on near the Asia Jaya LRT station. Eee nak pegi nak pegi!
Hmmm. "I must not act impulsively"

morally

In this post, I will explain why moral relativism is wrong and why the "gray area" is pointless.

Moral relativism is the authoritative stand that there is no right or wrong in the morally conscious world. Right or wrong, to the moral relativist, is absolutely dependent on the variables in the situation, and most often, what is right or wrong "depends on the situation".

Isaiah 5:20
What sorrow for those who say
that evil is good and good is evil,
that dark is light and light is dark,
that bitteris sweet and sweet is bitter.

The following explanation is based on Our Daily Journal (RBC Ministries) with my opinions.

When people see no distinction between good and evil, destruction follows. It is easy to say "no one can decide for anyone else what is really right or wrong". Under moral relativism, people make excuses for loving money, commiting adultery, discriminating people and aborting babies.

"Everyone's doing it"
"We only live once"
"The world is different today"
"We have to embrace change"
"That is our right"

But when they make excuses for their actions, they break down the distinction between right and wrong.

Moral choices become fuzzy.
There is no absolute right.
Wrong becomes a way of life.

We should never need to make excuses to justify our actions. A right action needs no justification.

Gray Area

We want to believe that there is a gray area to justify our actions-be it right or wrong. This gray area might even take over your conscience. It will tell you "what makes you happy is always right".

This gray area mentality might have stemmed from our love of freedom of speech and the open minded, non restricted mindset we have adopted from the various mediums of communication. It's been bombarding us lately with so much rubbish. Has anyone noticed that?

However, the whole thing with the "gray area" issue is pointless and destructive. It implies that there is no right and wrong. It implies that there is no clear line between right and wrong. That statement in itself, as many thinkers will tell you, is contradictory, because in order to make that statement, you would need a set of standards for you to say whether something is right or wrong.

In the end, all this fuzzy moral choices is just a product of people with too much time on their hands and too many unused brain cells.

It is so much simpler and smarter to live life knowing the basic right and wrongs. Why complicate things with the gray area? Our elders have lived their whole lives without needing it.

if the moon can linger on a day so bright, why can't the sun do the same at night?

Been to the movies four times in two weeks.

Wednesday was Taking of Pelham 123 with Iona and Mathew
Thursday was District 9 with mum
Monday was Talentime with Marcus
Tuesday was The Proposal with Daryl and Iona

1. Pelham was alright. Action packed stuff. The most kanciong movie I've seen, probably. What happened to Denzel? And I didn't recognise it was Travolta till the end of the movie.

2.
District 9 review here

3. Talentime is probably the best of the four movies I've seen. Nevermind that I've already seen it in Finas. It is laugh out loud and will still make you cry. The cinema only held Marc and I and four other people. (2 of which was Rachel's parents!)

4. The Proposal was akin to watching the marriage of a gay man and a transvestite. Seriously, do we need another formulaic rom com? My friends say yes, but I cannot differentiate 27 Dresses from The Proposal to Made of Honor. And the chemistry between Reynolds and Bullock was SORELY lacking, it was awkward and painful to watch.
I'm really a little fed up of being dragged to watch movies I don't want to watch and wasting my money and time with it. Like Ice Age 3. (Although i LOVE spending time with friends doing other stuff. Like tennis. *POP* and ice skating.)

Audrey Tautou stars in Coco avant Chanel (Coco before Chanel), a biographic documenting the rise of the Chanel empire. It was released in April this year and never made it to our shores.
This is one movie I won't mind being dragged to watch.

post title: Melur, Talentime.

don't brush your teeth like that

That morning, I was very groggy as I brushed my teeth. The grogginess could have been due to the lack of sleep I've been getting these past few days.

After brushing vigorously, I tasted something in my mouth that wasn't the minty taste of the toothpaste, nor the minty foam.

That familiar and warm iron tinted taste...what was it? Lick, lick. Oh gosh.

BLOOD. In my mouth. From my bleeding gum.

See?

BANYAK GILA. SCARY BETUL.

So I had to go to the dentist cos it won't stop bleeding ><

Haha, I must be nuts to take a picture of my blood stained toothbrush.
It's not blood people.
Just paint.
Pretty realistic eh? :D

District 9 movie review

These posters were pasted around North America as part of the marketing campaign for the lastest sci-fi movie, District 9. Public toilets, buses, everywhere lah.

This is the one line synopsis according to imdb.com:

An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology.

Photobucket

Mum and I watched the first screening of District 9 on the opening day (today lah). The cinema was rather empty. Perhaps trailers weren't shown, and publicity very little around here?

The actors aren't well known. D9 is director Neill Blomkamp's debut. With the help of producer Peter Jackson (LOTR guy), it is a very commendable debut. This sci fi movie is filmed like a documentary.

This movie has very good fighting scenes. Those alien guns make machine guns look like water guns. Don't even talk about Transformers.

My gripe is that there isn't much about the separation between aliens and humans-the movie concentrated more on the relocation work. I mean, after all that marketing blitz, you expect to see more of why the separation, right?
The cat and mouse game between MNU and the Nigerians made up for that lack though.

Be warned, D9 might be grosser than you think. As gross as last year's gruesome Sweeny Todd.

Here's a sneak preview (not the trailer)

Rating: 7.8/10

Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

List

1. Sepet and Gubra are currently being played on loop on channel 110 of Astro, the Yasmin Ahmad Dalam Kenangan channel.

2. You guys wanna watch Talentime, but don't want to suscribe to Astro Box Office to watch it? Then head down to Aeon Bt. Tinggi's movie theatre.
Talentime is currently being screened at selected cinemas. All proceeds of the ticket sale go to charity (I think. That's what the ad says)

3. Yours truly went on a food trip in Taman Melawati along with four others last Sunday, hit 7 eateries and can still feel the food swimming in her stomach on Thursday.
On another note, I found where Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) is!

4. Money money money. We will always have enough of it. But the world will try to tell you that you don't, so that you will worry your life away thinking about how to make money. Personally, I have been thinking of things to do and jobs to search so that I can have an income during the year end holidays. I tell you, worrying to no end. Useless.

Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him then they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?Matthew 6:26, 27

some tattoos are called tramp stamps for a reason.

I stumbled upon this on Zlwin's blog, who in turn stumbled upon Yoke Pei's:

I do not want a tongue piercing anymore!

Never! Yes, I am renouncing it publicly. Haha. Well, not that I was serious on getting one but yeah, I thought it was simply cool and all, you know. Ahaaa, until Bill Sudduth shared on Tattooing and Piercing yesterday. Thank God I was taught the ugly truth behind the ink and holes. Tongue piercing actually speaks I-Am-A-Lesbian. *gasp* I was not, am not and never will I be okay.

Generally, in the ancient days and even until today, tattoos are done as an act to gain power, acceptance and protection from the demonic spirits. And tattoos are often linked to prostitutions, convictions, slavery and perversion. A number of pictures were shown, from the Egyptian god Bes to the African's scarification, cicatrization and even, tongue slitting, ear plugging and lip plugging. The slides definitely freaked us out. Or at least, myself. Clearly, I was not exposed to things like this and it gave me a big, big shock. =O

I never thought that anyone would tattoo their face even! Yeah, a beautiful woman to have "goatee" on? And do you think it's worthy just because one finds pleasure in checking out the "amazed" look on their fellow friends when they proudly exhibit their slitted tongue? Very cool, huh? I looked at those pictures and I went all like, " What!? How sick can one be?" I'm sorry, I don't think it's cool at all.

Leviticus 19:28 -
"Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put your tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD."

There are certainly some spiritual aspects that we must be aware of in the case of tattooing and piercing. God warned us not to impair the image He has created in us as our body is the Temple of God and shall be kept holy. When we allow the ink to seep into our blood stream or when we get our body pierced, we're actually opening the door for the evil. Our different body parts are like gates to our inner self. The ancestors used to get their face and body tattooed just to make them look more like the idols that they were worshiping. And eventhough they were from different nations, we could see the resemblance in the designs of the tattoos. Coincidence, you think? No, it's the work of the Satan who came to steal, kill and destroy. To make God's people like you and me to fall into sins as such to worship and carry the image of idols instead. And now that the end days are near, we have to be extremely cautious in overcoming this growing "culture".

God doesn't want us to condemn ourselves, to condemn the way He formed us. However, the permanent marks are made to mar the body, a reckless act to allow the unrighteous take charge of us and as a sign of rebellion against God. Oh, and there's no such thing as a Christian tattoo at all. The Lord is the LORD. He does not need a tattoo of the cross on our arm to be glorified. It does not make us a Christian either. Jesus paid the price for us on the cross and rose again. We're made pure by faith and He looks deep into the beauty of our heart. It is the heart of worship and the passion to serve that He's searching for.

You may say, "Come on lah, tattoo's just an artwork!" or "Piercings are the now-thing", just ask yourself this "Do I really want to put myself at risk?" Well, not just spiritually (of course, spiritual damage is the ultimate deadly one!) - physically too. You might end up with a real bad infection and lose your parts. If vanity is the reason, then why at all? Right now, if you're thinking of laser as a back-up plan, do check out the cost and the duration of treatment first. And the ink has long-term affects on your health too. We don't need the scientific terms like Ferum (II) oxide here but I'm sure you all pretty much know that ink contains chemicals and most chemicals are hazardous, yes?

Be wise, to those who are on the verge of making a disastrous life-time decision. The choice is still yours. I'm just done sharing what I've learned from the talk and I hope that you'd gain something from this post too.

And to those who have fallen into this, it is not too late to learn, repent and rejoice in the Lord again. Pray and seek for forgiveness, not from men but from God. Remember, He's not only our Creator; He's also our Healer.

Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, let us argue this out", says the Lord. "No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool."

Amen!

from the oral cavity to the art block

This morning, my toothbrush tasted like something it should not taste-something else I wasn't used to. TxT so funky and suspicious.
So, Mr. Toothbrush, say goodbye to the toilet and hello to the blank paper, for you are going on a different mission altogether: paint!

From an email sent by mum:

THE BUZZARD:

If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and
is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its
ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is
that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a
run of 10 to 12 feet. Without space to run, as is its habit,
it will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner
for life in a small jail with no top.

THE BAT:

The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkable
nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level
place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it
can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully,
until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can
throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like
a flash.

THE BUMBLEBEE:

A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there
until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the
means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find
some way out through the sides near the bottom. It will
seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys
itself.

PEOPLE:

In many ways, we are like the buzzard, the bat, and the
bumblebee. We struggle about with all our problems and
frustrations, never realizing that all we have to do is look
up! That's the answer, the escape route and the solution
to any problem! Just look up.

Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around,

But faith looks up!

Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly

and trust in our Creator who loves us.

pasta zanmai

Iona and I went to Sunway Pyramid today.
Lunch was at Pasta Zanmai, the fusion Italian Japanese restaurant. The menu is huge. I wanna go back and try the green tea offerings someday.

She had grilled unagi with rice...

...and I had spicy prawn and squid pasta. Nyum.

Tea was Waffle World! No trip to Sunway Pyramid is complete with Waffle World. Yum yum.

Now I'm stuffed.

Oh yeah. We went there to look for a nice dress. The closest I got was this knee length one that came with a little chain link belt at Kitshen:

I wanted to buy it since it was 10% off, but that dress was only suitable for flat chested aneroxics. Just like everthing else in the fashion world today.

The most pointless question a journalist/writer can ever ask an artist/songwriter has to be...

"What is your inspiration?"

The question itself sounds rigid, like those Form Three karangans about inspirasi dan aspirasi anda (I never got round to differentiating the two).
Now, a better question would be

"What doesn't inspire you?"

There's a random bookstore in the mall below my college that stocks mostly Chinese books and novels from the 90s. Also got some English books lah, like outdated computer software guides (which go out of date really fast, did you know that?) and Harry Potter coloring books.

So one day I was walking on the dusty carpeted floors browsing through the mountains of Chinese books on astronomy and food when I saw this adorable book that had pictures of puppies! It was those nice picture books that has a featured photographer with his biography and widdle cute widdle puppies!

Ah I so want that old dusty book. It's going for RM 16. Rather mahal for an old book though.
