NLT

The book of 1 Samuel.

Now, that's a book to read! How did I finish reading it before I finished reading The Screwtape Letters? By reading one of the simplest translations of the Bible (personally, so far), the New Living Translation!

It's simple, everyday language that is easier to read and understand than NIV. Highly recommended for youths lah, I feel.

So what is 1 Samuel about? As you all know, Hannah was a barren woman, who seeked God at the temple. Here, she made the promise of her lifetime-that if she were to conceive, the first child would be dedicated to do the work of God.

That child was Samuel. (After Samuel, God gave Hannah many other children!) Now Samuel was the priest of the temple, sorta like the leader. But the people wanted a king! It was not for Israel to have a king-because they already had a leader. And having a king would be akin to changing the whole politics of the country. (God had in mind for a godly man to lead a nation) But what would Samuel do now?
