this is not a review

Went out with Janelle and Wee Han to watch Confessions of a Shopaholic.

The only thing on my mind after watching that movie is how kiddy Becky looked, fashion-wise, next to the stylish Alicia.

left: Alicia. right: Becky.

Nevermind the fact that Becky is the one with the shopping addiction here. Which makes you wonder-if she had this big an addiction to get her wardrobe filled, why would she fill it with superficial clothes that dates her, instead of getting clothes and accessories that are an investment?

Granted, her clothes are all so colorful and branded. But all color, all brand and no style makes her nothing more than the adorable Ugly Betty.

As a character who spends so much of her time in and out of store after store, I expected Becky to be better dressed. Perhaps in sleek fashion, like an LBD. A casual white top. Some nice pants. Round black sunnies. An LV or Coach bag, not a Gucci one, sheesh.

And the shoes-ugh. Pucci boots?! Where were the Jimmy Choos we saw so often in Sex and the City? What neon monstrosities took over Becky's feet?
What did Patricia Field do to make the fashion in SATC stand out so much?
And why did she hold back for Shopaholic?

Okay, so maybe she had a different vision for Becky that was different from Carrie's.
Perhaps Carrie was the fashionista and Becky was just the plain ol' shopaholic.
But still...I'm aghast that not even one of Becky's items in her huge wardrobe was an essentiality.

*essentiality: items that can be used over and over again due to its versatility. ie, a denim jacket, bohemian skirt, white tank top, faded jeans, lv handbag, a strand of pearl necklace.
