sony world photography awards 2009 exhibition
-Seesters+1 cous and me
-Petronas Gallery (or as the government would want us to call it, Galeri Petronas), KLCC
-Sony World Photography Awards 2009 Exhibition
The exhibition was very boom-boom pow. Below are some entries which attracted my attention:
David Zimmerman (USA) L'Iris D'Or Winner
A haunting and monotonously melodramatic picture of the deserts in the US, highlighting the problems the deserts are facing: ever increasing population pushing the boundaries of nature.
I like this collection very much! It depicts a very still place, but impactful as well.
Dustin Humphrey (USA) Commercial-Advertising Winner

Dustin Humphrey specialises in surf photography. Here, he took these pictures for a Jamaican surfing team, or a clothing brand. I'm not too sure. But they are awesome all the same!
Claire Martin (Australia) Amateur Winner
"Tony has been addicted to heroin for 25 years. He contracted AIDS as a result of his addiction and his health is rapidly declining. Here he eats cream pie that I bought in an attempt to get him to eat"
Doesn't this picture just break your heart? It certainly did mine. Tony lost his wife to a drug overdose and his children to the state.
Tamany Baker (UK) Fine Art-Conceptual & Constructed, Winner
The photographer's cat, apparently, brought in all these "gifts", which inspired the photographer to take pictures of them in a composed environment, mainly with fresh flower petals and leaves. I think it's marvellous. The animal by itself would be depressing and sombre, a symbol of death, but the use of the still-life flowers balances it out nicely by symbolising all that is life-color, vigor, and freshness.
All the winners have more than one entry/picture. You can find it online or at the official website here.
