post no. 501

The hardest thing to do is to be positive when everyone else is so negative.

Some days I feel like going up to them, grabbing them by their collar and scream at their faces.

Can't somebody spare an ounce of common sense and politeness?

mumble mumble

at this rate, i'll turn into one of the negatives.

if you're feeling down...

"Don't cry, buy a bag and get over it"

lyrics from fergie's labels or love
picture from google/satc/bluefly.com

books and stuff

There's only two words to describe the weather these days:
Panas. Menggila.

Which isn't a bad thing, you know. Flowers on trees only bloom in heat. The same heat that would have caused weeds to shrink catalyses the flower's bloom. Amazing? That's God in nature for you.

They are such a lovely sight, no? Likewise, we as humans are only beautiful when we triumph over impossible situations we face in life.

Remember the time, we forgot to take the parking token from a friend who left early, and we tried to get another from the entrance and tried to cover the CCTV, and had to cook up an excuse about forgetting where we parked the car when the security guard drove by in his little motorized cart?
Haha, I still grin over it.

Did you know that as people in a social setting, we only act by a certain way our counterparts do? It's called the reciprocal determination in psychology. Our actions are motivated by the actions of our counterparts first.

Like, if I show you respect and love, you will do the same to me. But if I call you something nasty, you will retaliate by calling me something nasty too.

So, in conclusion, we should stop all the bull crapping and start showing respect instead of demanding it. Who gave us the right to demand for respect, anyway?

The first piece of literature about a chick (but wasn't a chick lit) I ever read was Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. The abridged (cut down short-short for students) version was in the school library.

I was so intrigued by the storyline that I went out and bought the unabridged version from MPH. It's REALLY REALLY LONG and REALLY REALLY draggy and cost around 10 bucks. Back in the days (1800s), authors wrote really long stuff.

But the book, it's one of the best i've ever read, besides J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan.
I've been on a lookout for the 1996 movie version of Jane Eyre and thanks to YouTube, I'm not anymore! Hahahaha.
It's all too long to load and watch though. So i skipped straight to the last 5 minutes.

As I grow older, books don't seem to hold the same allure as it did. Kinda sad. But I did saw this book by an author Joyce likes, Haruki Murakami in Popular a few weeks ago. SO EMO MAN. A Wild Sheep Chase.

thank you google for the pic

Speaking of emo. I cannot read through a Jodi Picoult book without feeling down in the dumps afterwards. Really! The Pact was alright and all, but it was really really....pointless.

My Sister's Keeper seems nice and thought-provoking, but halfway through the mood turns more sombre and dark. So naturally, i didn't finish the book.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

There's a twist to getting the previous semester's final results: you have to pay last sem and this sem's fees before getting it. Silly? Maybe.

That's why I'm typing out this post. Killing off 30 minutes to get the results on the Google email.

I have absolutely nothing to do; it's just 1130 am, and my next class is at 3.30. I've gotten the invoice from the registy earlier today to see how much to pay for the April 09 sem.

This morning at 930 I went for my first class, accounts. Hmm...my gang was nowhere to be seen. Oh well. Perhaps they overslept. No, they did not. They decided to go for the later class because they can't wake up early. uh-huh.

And here I am in the noisy computer lab typing out word after word like a typing machine to while away the thirty minutes until I can get my results.
You might think it is pathetic-but I tell you it is not.

Firstly, I need to know my current CGPA so that I know if I can take an extra subject this sem.

Secondly, it is crucial for us students to know if we passed our previous sem's subjects, as they are pre-requisites for us to take other subjects.
We need to know if we failed any subject, so that we know which subject to sit out.

And...that's about it.

And, it's *awesome* that we were kept in the dark on the condition to receive our previous sem's results. so *awesome*.

=)

Sigh. I should've put the moral assignment to my thumbdrive. Then I can edit it here. And print it out here. Now I've to go back, check my mail, load something, and edit it, and edit all of it once again, and send it out to my group members.

I can't do it. I can't type out a blog post without pictures for 30 minutes. Scroo this, I'm going blog hopping.

cultured indulgence

"Tell me whom you love and I will tell you who you are."
Houssaye

I was going through Sam's blog and she highlighted and bolded the quote above.
Hmm. Kinda makes sense, no? You are who you love.

But the news about the recent LAN (Local Area Network) party in Cyberjaya held to break the Guiness World Record made me think, we are also WHAT we love. 40 hours straight on DOTA is no mean feat. You got to love the game to play it for nearly two days with minimal breaks. I mean, 40 hours of gaming like SRSLY?!

Hahaha I like eew-thanasia.

The one thing I'm afraid of is our cultured indulgence.
As small and trivial as materials seem to us, we still want to fulfill our desires. Our little guilty pleasures, the indulgences that we create.

There is something about the value of materials that we love to look past every time we see something we desire-that it is worth at nothing. Materials do not bring much value in the long run. Materials do not have a purpose in our lives. I wanna throw out my stuff.

"The most valuable things in life aren't things"

That's why Good Friday has nothing to do with easter bunnies and chocolate eggs, no matter what Godiva tries to sell you.

It has to do with the love that God demonstrated to us through the crucifixion and ressurection of Jesus. The work on the cross.

Oh yeah...Jesus didn't come for the sinless and the perfect. He came for sinners and the imperfect. =)

Inexplainable feeling of emptiness shrouds my feelings somedays that has little or no effect to behavior and attitude.
Perhaps something had gone wrong somewhere?

grissom is leaving csi

1) I need to look for feather dusters in Jalan Taiping.

2) Mum said I had a period of childhood when I refused to wear shorts or pants or skirts and ran around the house in underwear only. HAHA! So hilarious to think of it. I mean, kids can wear anything and pull it off. Even nothing.
And yes I am still like that.

3) Euthanasia...ugh-thanasia.

4) I like Steve Madden shoes. Very flattering to the feet.

And you can't talk about flattering shoes without talking about Stuart Weitzman. This shoe is called Solitaire.

And Nine West.

Because Jimmy Choo doesn't make the cut. And Manolo...is just BLAH. Nik.

O beautiful expensive shoes I will never care about.

talk time and a pink bunny

Joyce, the iTalk lover, always in deep thought younger sister of Bawanie, handed be a very belated birthday postcard at church today! Better late than never, eh? Don't you think the card is sweet?

More so since it says:

You're funny.
Looking.

Very shweet.
Anyway, Joyce blogs at taktahansudah.blogspot.com Whether or not her link pokes fun at her thoughts on the political scene of the country or the celebrity-obssesed culture of these days, I cannot say for sure.
All I can say is "Tak tahan sudah" seems to be a very versatile caption. xD

PTL

PTL is an acronym for Praise the Lord.

PTL is what my mum said when I lost my wallet with the IC last year, and didn't have to pay RM100 to replace the IC (due to negligence). ^^

PTL is what I'm saying after losing my pouch today, but not realising that I lost it, and getting it back, with nothing missing.
^^" my carelesness. Nine West shoes were on sale.
(Thanks also to Parkson KLCC staff)

PTL is what my mum and I said when we got out of KL. It was raining heavily, I was a noob driver on the roads of KL, and we were lost after taking a wrong turn out of KLCC.

We passed by the so-called "troubled" area of Chow Kit, which looks like any other part of the city when washed by the rain. There were cars all around us, motorcyclists swerving in and out of lanes, and the special taxi and bus lane was clearly marked with yellow paint on the left side of the road which I had to keep in mind not to invade everytime I slowed down.

The roads were flooded and skid-prone. I trusted God that He would lead us out, because really, has God ever left us to fend for ourselves in the midst of confusion?
=)

(If you're lost in KL, and want to go back to Klang, go along Jalan Tun Perak to Jalan Pudu)

Genesis 4:19 sums up my rainy day in KL. I didn't see a rainbow, but Noah's story of his act of faith to what God said came to mind.
Act in faith in God. Simple as that. When i was lost, I handed over the navigation task to God. When Noah was given the task, he gave his full trust to God, knowing that the Almighty had big plans.

PTL!

plastic heart, paper heart

There were some cardboard hearts lying around, so I took a break from studying Psycho to do some arts and crafts.

I learnt the method of curling paper strips from a book. Afterwards, i stuck a safety pin to the back and voila, a pin!

animals and rain

Then there was rain
The sky wore a veil of gold and gray
At night it was the bright of the moon with me
Time was just floating

Surrounded by a sea of accounts, elephant has nowhere to go!

So when the deeper that the knife goes in
The more you win
You win but with less than you begin
The deeper that the knife goes in, ooh

I like stapler crocogators :)

Oh rainy day, come 'round
Sometimes I just want it to slow down
And we're separated now, I'm down

Rainy days like these make sea animals taste better (Chen Ho Ho steamboat)

But I love when you come over to the house
I love it when you come over to my house

Even the thick broth of Bak Kut Teh seems more inviting!

Or, if you're on a diet, Coldplay's Rainy Day (from Prospekt's March) is an anthem to bop your head to.
The intro is adorable. I love the strings in the chorus.

Aaand, in case you've not noticed, the italicised pushed to the right quotes throughout this post are the song's lyrics.

There is a saying which I used to hate when I was young because it seemed so stupidly arrogant, but now I seem to like it a lot:

Quitters never win
and
Winners never quit

If we decide to throw in the towel at every miniscule, trivial problems we face, how much more will we do that in the future? Hopping here and there to avoid problems isn't going to get you anywhere.

How can we ever learn from lessons if we don't stay till the end of the lesson?

If you don't let the problems in your life mould you, what will?

Do you think you can get success easily without going through failure?

Sometimes we just have to stop looking inwards at our own problems and whiny complaints, and we have to look outwards. Direct all that boundless energy from the inside to the world around you. Ask yourself: How can you make this world a little bit better?

It's not going to be easy-but it will be worth it.

Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
-Isaiah 40:30, 31

when they see me, all they see is coldplay :O

The first is a gift of Coldplay's Prospekt's March EP from E-F which comes with Viva La Vida which was also given by the same person for the same occasion last year.
Redundant, but very thoughtful. (Images are Googled cos the USB cable's not working)

The second gift was from WH, Janelle and Rachel, of Coldplay's Secret Gig in Paradiso Amsterdam, Netherlands DVD. I know what you're thinking: Coldplay again?

Wait till you hear about the next gift.

Roland Piano Festival Pop Category 2009 champion Cherylyn (sounds more chun like that right?) made this video as my birthday present:

(I LUV LUV LUV it. Especially the bridge, the WOOooooOOOOOaaaaAAh part.)

Thank you for the lovely presents, lovelies! although Chris Martin would've been the BEST gift

And yes my birthday was on the ninth. No I did not put up a wishlist. Yes that is probably why you forgot. Yes you are forgiven. No you may not wish me through the chatbox. Yes you should comment on this post instead.

Yes yes Adam Lambert will win American Idol. Can we get over him already?

Don't go on a diet before you turn, at the very least, 19. That's because at any age earlier than that, you need lots of calories and nutrients to grow.

A human body does not fully develop until it reaches the early adulthood. Going on a diet means depriving the body of nutrients before that age will stunt the bodily growth.
There will be lots of time to diet when one grows up.
Which is why i'm stuffing myself now!
Eat first, diet never later

The very catchy song from Fast and Furious 4 trailer is
We Are Rockstars by Does It Offend You, Yeah?
The name suggests that they're English. That's why the "yeah" is at the back, like you want to fight-fight ar?

Which somehow reminds me of
Prodigy's Spitfire.

Ending with something lighter than all those noise, here's
Jamiroquai's Cosmic Girl which looks like an ad for sports cars...hrm.

Which reminds me hor, when i drove today, i realised something: most of the cars which i honk at, are driven by *gasp* women!

raisin studded butter cake-mmmmmm

Some people are generally good at everything. You call these people, people with a high general factor of intelligence, or the g factor, in a theory brought forward by Charles Spearman.

It's 4.30pm on a Tuesday afternoon, and we just took our second finals paper for the term, Microeconomics: a Micro pain in the brain. The finals was kicked off with Accounts yesterday.

God is good, all the time.
All the time, God is good.
:D

The Gospel-As short as possible.

Once there was a guy called Jesus. He was a carpenter who loved to bring happiness. He could walk on water, turn water into wine and heal the blind and lame.

He was crucified on the cross on a Friday. One of his followers, Judas, betrayed Him and reported Him to the Romans for a couple of gold coins.

Let's go back to moments before His crucifixion. It was the Passover. The governor's custom was that during this time, the people could choose to release one prisoner to the crowd, whoever they wanted.

That year, Barabbas and Jesus were the pick. Barabbas was a guy who lead a rebellion against the Roman government, which was ironically the crime for which Jesus was accused. The citizens chose Barabbas.

Stripped, mocked, spat on, Jesus was clothed again and was led to the cross to be crucified along with two criminals. There, even more people mocked him, telling him to save himself if he was truly the Son of God.

He cried out to God for one final time, and died.
At that moment, the earth shook, rocks split, and even the dead holy people were brought to life.

Mat 17:54-When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely he was the Son of God!"

Three days later, Jesus lives.

pic from shutterstock-obviously

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the
other Mary went to look at the tomb.
There was a violent earthquake, for an
angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the
stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were
white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like
dead men.

The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know
that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen,
just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell
his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into
Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."

-Matt 28:1-7

Because He lives, I have:
purpose, meaning and direction in my life.
someone who loves me even when I feel like crap.
the best teacher and guide to teach me to live this life well.

this is not a review

Went out with Janelle and Wee Han to watch Confessions of a Shopaholic.

The only thing on my mind after watching that movie is how kiddy Becky looked, fashion-wise, next to the stylish Alicia.

left: Alicia. right: Becky.

Nevermind the fact that Becky is the one with the shopping addiction here. Which makes you wonder-if she had this big an addiction to get her wardrobe filled, why would she fill it with superficial clothes that dates her, instead of getting clothes and accessories that are an investment?

image taken from blogthecoast.com

Granted, her clothes are all so colorful and branded. But all color, all brand and no style makes her nothing more than the adorable Ugly Betty.

As a character who spends so much of her time in and out of store after store, I expected Becky to be better dressed. Perhaps in sleek fashion, like an LBD. A casual white top. Some nice pants. Round black sunnies. An LV or Coach bag, not a Gucci one, sheesh.

carrie from satc-now she had style

And the shoes-ugh. Pucci boots?! Where were the Jimmy Choos we saw so often in Sex and the City? What neon monstrosities took over Becky's feet?
What did Patricia Field do to make the fashion in SATC stand out so much?
And why did she hold back for Shopaholic?

Okay, so maybe she had a different vision for Becky that was different from Carrie's.
Perhaps Carrie was the fashionista and Becky was just the plain ol' shopaholic.
But still...I'm aghast that not even one of Becky's items in her huge wardrobe was an essentiality.

*essentiality: items that can be used over and over again due to its versatility. ie, a denim jacket, bohemian skirt, white tank top, faded jeans, lv handbag, a strand of pearl necklace.

all images were results of google
