MGS canteen day 2007

Before I continue, I just want to say that I am a hypocrite. We are all hypocrites one way or another, so what the heck!

MGS canteen day was...predictable. I for one am not a supporter of IU/Canteen Days so I'm rather pessimistic about the whole thing.
70% of the people who attended the canteen day where either showing off their boyfriend/girlfriend to the miniscule crowd, pleading for attention in lala garbs and blue hair color, camwhoring like mad and/or pretending to know everyone at the event.
Well, there was this one attraction I saw by my sister's class-it cost RM 4 to go into a dark room to be groped by girls. Admission is only open to girls, though. SUSPICIOUS...! They call it the Magic Maze or the Haunted House or whatever but I thought it was a cheap thrill for weak-hearted girls. Some even came out CRYING earlier in the morning. How scary can being groped by girls be?

The foodstalls were attractive but the service by some where horrible. I went to this stall selling fruits in chocolate sauce for RM 1. I was standing in front of FOUR promoters, ok. The coupon was in my hand. I waited for 30 seconds. They STILL weren't looking at me! Goodness, someone teach them about customer service, please! I even WAVED the ----ing coupon in front of the promoter and she was definately somewhere else because she didn't respond to that. GOODNESS!
Then there was this stall run by Form 1 girls. I tell you, they are like.... "...". These are just the opinion of one person, mind you. The service was slow. The girls were just interested in something else. The cup of RM 2 float was less than half filled! I can go on and on but I have something else to complain about. Complain is a very underrated word here, ok?
I'm not saying all the stalls were horrible. My cousin and a few of my friends were running some of the stalls.

The next thing I'm going to complain about is regarding the Public Announcement person or the whatever you call it person lah. Sorry to say, listening to her voice was like having nails and sandpaper on my skin. The English is less than standard and her punctuation in sentences are so wrong. And to think that MGS has a fantastic debate team. They should have been in charge of the PA. The dedications were 99% love and 1% corny. Or vice versa. Whateverlah! There was this dedication that goes like this:
"To all the Convent girls, from the La Salle boys, you chicks are hot! Muacks muacks! Tomorrow's Convent canteen day will be much better than todays'. See you there!"

I don't know who is the stupid one here. The "La Salle" boys giving free publicity to Convent in MGS (can you say catfight?) or the Public Announcement person for actually airing the message that one way or another degrades MGS.

There was also news about counterfeit coupons being used to buy stuff. Like, wow. Who on earth would be so desperate to actually print out fake coupons to use at a fund-raising canteen day? Talk about desperation! I smell sabotage here...

Anyway, those are just my ramblings on the canteen day. I'm unsatisfied and that's that. Goodnight!

XOXO

What if...

(picture from xkcd.com)

What if there was no light
Nothing wrong, nothing right
What if there was no time
And no reason or rhyme
What if you should decide

When every step that you take
Can be your biggest mistake
And it could bend, or it could break
Well that's just the risk that you take
What if you should decide

Maroon 5 review

It Won't Be Soon Before Long is Maroon 5's latest album. The Malaysian edition contains a 13th bonus song.
To make this review simple, this album is hot and shiny. Have you seen the MV for Makes Me Wonder? It had red, blue and purple neon lights and was funky, wasn't it? Though it had little musical interpretation, it was an entertaining MV nonetheless. I still wonder though: some reviewers said that Makes Me Wonder has political references in it. I've gone over the lyrics but still can't find it.

Among the songs in this album is A Little of Your Time, one of my favourite songs. Catchy, loud and fun, it leaves an imprint in the musical part of your brain. If you listen closely to the lyrics, it mirrors a stalker after his prey. Ohohoho.

Other songs in the catchy range include Can't Stop and Kiwi. Both equally appealing but very single-themed. Ahem.
Anyway, this album isn't just all about fast tempo songs and attractive beats. There are also a few thought-provoking (depends on your level of understanding-lah), soulful songs like Back at Your Door and Better That We Break. The one song that got my attention is Goodnight, Goodnight: emo without sounding whiny, it won't leave girls with running mascara lines.

A nice surprise from this album is Nothing Lasts Forever. It has the melody from the 2004 Kanye West/Adam Levine hit, Heard 'Em Say. IWBSBL has lots of 80s influence-just read the tags at Amazon.com for the album.

Overall, IWBSBL may not bring up world issues or thoughtful thoughts but it's aenjoyable to listen to nevertheless. 8.5/10

I got my copy from a contest, so I've got nothing to complain about. XD

"...forfeit the grace that could be theirs..."

They will stop laughing
When the first drop from the heavens
Fall from the endless skies above

They will stop laughing
When they hear the pitter patter of the rain
Bringing the days of the floods along

They will stop laughing
When they tread in waters and mud
When water rushes down the slopes

They will stop laughing
When the water exceeds the rooftops

They will stop laughing
They will stop being merry

A/N:The picture is from chatallot (http://www.flickr.com/photos/chatallot/). The poem was inspired by a few lines I heard.

people reject what they should have

The best pictures of people are taken when they don't notice they're being shot. Au natural, some may say. Unfortunately, due to certain photography ethics by a certain someone, I'm prohibited from publishing that shot. However here are a few with *ahem* ethics.

The Dato Hamzah group. No offense, but if Pn. Maizon were in charge, she'd be hentaming them: "Apasal kamu tak boleh goyang dengan seimbang?!"

DH pancaragam. We agreed that the conductor had a sexy back. AHAHAHAHA.

I like this picture. Everyone's so humbly happy here.

If you get any e-mail stating that you have to send an e-mail to a number of people, don't waste your life. The article above says "MSN 'to charge user fees'"

Come on people. the " ' ' " signs obviously means that it's not implemented yet and most likely will not. It's like a sarcastic statement by Microsoft. Call me dumb, but I didn't know Microsoft owned MSN.

On another note, summer bash was very succesful. I had lots of fun and so did everyone. We finished painting the backdrop in like, what, an hour? The backdrop ate 8 pieces of mahjong paper by the way, so you can imagine how big it was. It's very cute. What's cuter was the fake palm trees by Jason. I'll post pictures if I can find them. Goodness, they even bought in real coconut leaves to hang on the tree!

Motherhood must be very stressful.

That's the song I hear

Okay. I have lots of things to do but am postponing them. Here are two things I'm blogging about today:
The Golden Days
I know Golden citizens are senior citizens, but as Shannon puts it, our childhood should have been our Golden years. U-Mae's post on 20th June was seriously seriously a wake-up call. Well, it was more of a back to the future kind of call.

Childhood is but a sweet memory as we are pushed into a world of different perspectives. Corruption, scholarship, jobs, marriage-will we ever find a time to rekindle old memories and make new ones? I guess we shouldn't be looking backward but looking forward-imagine, in another year, Iona will be allowed to get married and have kids! Legally! And thus a new story begins....*gosh that sounds emo/poetic*

LOVE, LOVE ME-Mika
This was the day all of us at the choir have been waiting for. It was an okay daylah. The contestants included Jalan Kebun, MGS, Convent, Bukit Kemuning and Dato Hamzah. Tahun lepas macam ada lapan ke sembilan sekolah yang take part. Tahun ni semua orang takut kat Convent dan MGS. LOL

The MGS team. I think they recycle their costumes. Ione wore the same one when SHE was in the choir. They sang a Whitney Houston song. It was great when they harmonized. They got second place. The conductor was none other than U-Mae. I remember her saying she screwed up when she auditioned for the conductor...

Convent sang You Raise Me Up and Gemilang. Eventhough they were short on tenors and basses, they brought it out man. I tell you, the singers were passionate and sang softly when they had to. As for the conductor (Jian Quin) she was telling a story to the singers with her hands-the epitome of a conductor. She won best conductor also. I do notice a similarity between the Convent school choir and the African Children's Choir. If you know it, don't say it.
My dad says they won because of their song choice. It is partly correct as Malaysia is a country that theoratically should raise up its citizens. LOL

We sang I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing and Tanah Pusaka. I think we did fantastic. Our choir team had NO professionals to train us 24/7 and the piano pieces were all composed by Cherylyn (http://cherylynthejazzgurl.blogspot.com). Cherylyn is the head of the choir. It is not surprising that she was the one who did all of the arrangements and harmonizing of the english and bahasa songs as she loves music. You should see her music book collection! Anyways, Cherylyn, you did a great job. And I say you HAVE to come back for Form Six next year. HAHAHAHA JK.

pink=YX yellow=Cher
Yin Xian was the conductor. She really made eye-contact with the singers as I suggested her to. Good job!
The only professionals we had were Kak Deli (one of Malaysia's national choir member) and Kak Rai (last year's conductor). Both only came in four times in six months to help us out. Even Afiq wasn't present all the time!
And to all of the choir members who might or might never be reading this, you guys rock. And remember, "Everybody's got to love today, love today, LOVE TODAY!"

We may have gotten third place, but we are the champions~Quote unquote from a fighter

everyone needs that slice of popularity/attention they seek

We're supposed to have a full-dress rehearsal tomorrow. Cherylyn says that we, the morning session, shall not have to attend the morning assembly.
Iona: What's red, pink and yellow all over?
Me: What?
Iona: Cherylyn murdering us when she sees us at perhimpunan tomorrow.

Honestly speaking I'm very tired of the choir but I will miss it next year. It's been a great experience so far and I'm glad to see that the younger ones are responsible and full of fun enough to carry on next year's. Cherylyn might have to come back for Form 6 next year to carry on the lineage. HAHAHA. I tell you, some of us in the choir will have to be hospitalised for exhaustion after the competition.

On another note, as I was walking from the Form 3 block which was adjacent to the Dewan Makan, I saw a flash of pale pink and an oddly-proportioned top of a woman. Oh, it was just Levin in a woman's attire. Orientation week looks fun. It always is. LOLOL.

Happy fathers' day! You are the cool father and I am blessed to be your daughter. Happy father dayS.

I was reading the Sejarah text book just now and I saw that the name "Rentap" actually means "penggoncang dunia". Hmm....doesn't that translate to PlanetShakers? LOLOLOL. Rentap Malaysia. Speaking of penggoncang dunia, my sister went to the Planet Shakers concert yesterday. Lorna told me Nisha saw her, which was weird. I remembered Nisha saying she would see me at GHM which never occured...LOLOL. Piece two and two together lah. I think Nisha also went for Hillsongs last Sunday. Fun right?

Anyway, my sister bought the Arise CD and got it autographed. When she came back, I asked, very politely if she could pretty please play the CD. Well, obviously she said NO. She wouldn't even let me touch the CD case or the small paper thing in the case. It's not like I expected her to say "Go ahead and listen to the CD!" because she said no when I asked her if I could TOUCH the Fall Out Boy, Avril Lavigne, 30 Seconds To Mars and All-American Rejects CD which are in her possesion. Touch only okay! Not even LISTEN to the CD yet. That girl is....materialistic. Wasn't Madonna materialistic? Luke 12:15 says "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possesions." from the Parable of the Rich Fool. The parable makes a lot of sense and is parallel to Matthew 6:19,20. If you're wondering why am I quoting scriptures it's because I want my sister to read them.

My new english teacher asked us to read Chapters 4 and 5 of The Pearl. I wonder what is the Spanish translation for "The Pearl". La Perla, maybe? HAHAHAHA I crack myself up. The Pearl is basically a very short story about a small family and a pearl but somehow it turns out to be this mudanely long and super-emo story due to the constant additions of "The song of the Evil", "The song of the Peace", "The song of the Pearl that Might Be" and other weird songs with weird names lah. I'll read it later. It's just revision 'cos I've already read the whole of The Pearl last year.

And also, there's this superbly weird video someone sent to me:

I have yet to see the whole thing as it takes an eternity to load. Still, it makes you wonder how people like that can stoop so low to cover their flaws by using a low tech camera phone to highlight that of others. Am I making sense? But it also shows that the person who posted the video loves the school a lot as the video comes up as a search result for the full name of the school. If you want to 'sabo' your school choir team oso do it with style a bit lah...But lookie here! We have a rating of 4 and a half stars. Woo hoo! We're so going to kick their -

XOXO
PS: I just Wiki-ed La Perla. I thought La Perla was a brand of expensive lingerie. Seriously! Here: http://www.laperla.com/home2.htm Ooh! I smell something nice wafting from the corridors!

Stick thin people are....bicycles.

Sensitive weight issues ahead. Don't read if you're not open minded.

Khadijah (http://ilostmymarbles-khadijah.blogspot.com) recently blogged about this person, Ning's entry (http://mizzwong.blogspot.com/2007/06/is-thin-really-in_05.html) on stick-thin girls who want to get thinner. I couldn't agree more with what the two ladies say.

I don't complain about my weight. I don't blog about my weight because not only is it unneccesary, it's calling for attention. That put aside, I'm very, VERY pleased with how I look.

(the following is adapted from Khadi)

Seriously, what need is there to complain about your weight if:
-You weigh less than 50 kg.
-You have a stick-thin (read: stick-thin, not hourglass) figure.
-You wear clothes in S or XS.
-Everyone compliments your figure.
-You've been a model (at least once) or have been called to model for products.

What is there to complain about? Do you want to weigh 20 kg like those under-nourished African children?

By telling yourself you look fat, do you hope that people will come up to you and say you look hot stick-thin and poufy-lipped? Hun, it's not working. That's just plain pathetic.

(and then K goes on to console the girls on how they SHOULD look without touching the superficial inner beauty stuff)

K put the facts down, and that's good. But instead of consoling the girls, what I'd like to do is to support them.

Yes, you are fat. You eat too much. You drink too much. Heck, you use too much toothpaste in the morning. You want to get thin? Go ahead. Don't eat solids. Don't drink beverages. And don't use toothpaste. Just treat yourself to the occasional glass of water. Wait, cut that. Don't even THINK about reaching for that glass of water. You're on a mission, girl! You want to lose weight, remember?
You want to lose weight fast, don't you? Good! Let's hit the gym. No better way to lose all that fat by working it off, eh? It's also a million times more productive than sitting in that air-conditioned room of yours blogging about how fat you are and how you need to go on a diet, waiting for some random stranger to agree with you.
Now that I've said what was on my mind, I feel SO MUCH better. I don't bear grudges against girls who want to lose weight. I SUPPORT the girls. I know they're on a mission to a size-0 for life. What a noble, self-sacrificing mission, isn't it? Girls who already look like skeletons on a mission to dissapear completely in thin air. Someone call the news crew.

monday, 11th June 2007

Wow! How time flies. One second it's January and the next it's April and now we're in June! In exactly less than 6 months we will be sitting for the dreaded SPM. Gosh, I already feel guilty for sitting here, typing this.

Today i had a chat with one of my friends. She told me about her relationship with a guy and i couldn't help but feel shocked most of the time. i wasn't shocked because of her story but shocked that she at that age already has one. call me kolot or whatever but it really surprised me.

What i think about getting into a relationship is if you're still young, don't do it. not only are you emotionally immature, you're still young and you are free! Think about it. having a bf/gf is akin to owning a pet. You have to bathe it, walk it, feed it, talk to it to avoid it from being suicidal, (jk) spend money on it, spend your time on it and tell all of your secrets to it.

Logically, i think, having a pet is much easier than having a bf/gf. Think about it. A pet will not cheat on you. A pet can pretty much live without much pampering. And a pet, be it a cat, dog, fish, hamster or horse will NEVER tell your secrets to anyone else. being attached, on the other hand....well, let's say you have this bf. You tell him EVERYTHING, even your littlest and biggest secret. ALL of your secrets. Then he breaks up with you. i wonder where will those secrets go to? Definately not to the grave with him. HAHAHAHAHA sorry i feel so mean now.

I have to say this to Pisang, though: If you don't like how people keep inviting you to rallies, you tell me who they are and i will tell them to stop bugging you. Seriously. For you, i'd go to lengths to make sure you're not bothered. However, do keep in mind that Jesus told us to go to the world and make disciples. So i can't help it if people want to bring you to rallies.
Besides, rallies can only be a Christian event if you want it to be. It all depends on how you see certain things. *sorry if i hurt your feelings. and that of other people*

finally, i read an e-mail from Sam and this is a part i like the most of her e-letter:

ps. barbie is made of plastic. plastic isnt cold but it isnt warm either. perfection is what we lack but why would we want it?

why aren't there testimonies at rallies?
it'd add some spice to the line-up instead of the usual things offered...i mean, you'd be more open when you see people enjoying what they're going through, right?
we have to practice what we preach. it is when we fail to do so that we have let down the people around us. but then again, who are we trying to please? them or Him?

i see ppl going to rallies to enjoy themselves for half an evening....like, they come to jump around, watch the sketch, ogle here and there and poof they're gone before the preacher takes the stage. what the he!! is wrong with those ppl? don't get me started on those who come just for the fun of it. i mean, if you come with a friend, nevermind, but when you come just for the fun of it? like wth?!

maybe it's time to let the altar call happen before the skit and performance.

Second rant
i dislike the ppl who come and go as they please. they set a bad example to others. but hey, it's not like they even gave a damn about the others, do they? they're just shallow minded, self-centered people.

gah i hate the hypocrites! you ppl suck!

what the eff is wrong with you people?! just turn off the bloody machine when you're not using it! is it THAT hard? get a life!

you ppl are mean, and SO AM I. using the upper cases to point out the words. gaaaaaaaahhh!!!!!

Angry signs
*lightning bolt* *dagger* * skull* *stars* *radioactive sign* *something dangerous* *broken heart* *knife* *keris* *big boulder* *dagger* *lightning bolt* *radioactive sign* *skull* *something dangerous* *angry human* *stars* GRRRRR!!!!!

pretend
you don't have to pretend you care. i know just how you feel about the things happening. what, you think i'm stupid or something? i've got *brains* you know.
stop breathing down my neck! it tickles and it's rude.
get some manners, will you? look at my eyes when i'm talking to you. you ppl *suck*~!

you ppl make me angry inside! like really angry! really really angry! grrrr!!!!!
get some manners ok? it disgusts me to see mannersless ppl. what ever lah! ish!

GRRR

10 THINGS THAT I LOVE
1. I love my Creator.

2. I love my family. (I won't be living with them if I don't)

3. I love my best friends-Let me name you some I can remember. Well, there was Nicole in kindergarden. She was the prettiest girl in kindergarden and we were best friends. I don't know how that happened, 'cos I was a handful when I was young.
Then there was Michele. She was a very friendly girl. We wrote letters since we were 6 and stopped when I reached Standard 6. Many, many years later she's in the same school as I am, but we don't talk much.
The longest school-years best friend I had was and is, Joe Jian. She was the best friend I looked up to-the smart one who got better grades than me, the athletic one who always runs faster than me, the cheerful one whom I've never seen moody (unless her sisters bully her) and the one who, along with Sherene we vowed to grow up together. Until I went to STAR and they to MGS. hehe.
From form 1 to 3 I wasn't clingy to anyone but emotionally I was clingy. My best friends were and is Iona the banana and Samantha. On the other hand, Iona doesn't count 'cos she's my relative. Samantha is just this weird girl with a penchant for writing. She and I are like....uh....opposites. I think. Dunnolah.
The more recent additions of school-years BFs are Khadijah and Daryl. Daryl got me hooked on F1 (Go Hamilton!) and Khadijah is my private shrink. 'Nuff said.

(daryl and khadijah. i think they look sepet)

4. I love thinking about others. See number 5.

5. I love people who aren't my best friends. I keep them close in my heart and in my prayers whenever I remember them. Izzatie, Adelin, Krystal, Kani and countless classmates and ex-classmates. Cherylyn the slightly emo-ish entertainer, Yin Xian aka Martha Stewart, joyful Joyce and sarcasm-filled Bawanie, ooh, Lorna! Bawanie and Lorna came in a package with Daryl and Khadijah-the Piala Datuk Wira debate package.
The people at Youth Energy-Andy the actor, Lillian and Lynette (Lillian is the...younger one), Zlwin, Yoke Ping (cute girl) and oh! Sarah, Jan Quin, Fong Hei and Rosmary-my roomies. They are fun people. There's also Mandy the newcomer, Emily, Rou Shinq and Sam. Uhm...Janielle, the old people at the back (PL, Weng Soon, Sister Kim and Pastor John) and all the random people like Evelyn and Angeline who pop in now and then! The GHM people and the people people. I love all of those people. They're colorful.
The second group is the ones from Harvest Youth-wow. I love Mun Khea, Mun Hwa, Aivy, Vivien and Iri. The brothers (Gideon and Ronnie) and the brother and sister ( Caleb and Madeline, I found Madeline's blog last year), the sisters, the other sisters and the brothers and those random people who made me laugh and made me feel welcome.
If you don't see your name here, nudge me and I'll blog about you. ;)

(bigger family potrait, thanks to Zlwin)

6. FOOD! I like to eat lots of stuff. Sam went to Thailand last year and said she'd bring back some fried grasshoppers. Bak Kut Teh, chicken rice, chicken chop, ice-cream, burgers, fried maggi, maggi mee, CHOCOLATES, keropok, wantan, NASI LEMAK, snacks, junk food and all those random food. CUPCAKES! And did I mention chocolates?

7. Music. Eternal Flame, Unchained Melody, Black or White, Billie Jean-songs from the 90s thanks to my parents. And the Sesame Street theme song! Lately it's Hillsongs and pop songs. Music-hmmm....I like Coldplay very much. And Linkin Park, Mika, Chopin and the random singers.

8. Nature. Trees. I love trees. They provide oxygen and prevent global warming. They also give shade. And....the leaves sound musical in the wind! Trees rock! Hug a tree today! Sunsets, sunrise and everything in between. Clouds, fields, flowers, animals! Cows and ducks and sheeps and goats and chickens and dogs and cats! I like mongrels too. I think they're the most emo-ridden of all.

9. I love stuff that I love. TV shows: CSI, CSI:Miami, CSI:NY, House, Grey's Anatomy, American Idol, Project Runway, America's Next Top Model, My Wife and Kids, Powerpuff Girls (they're cool), SESAME STREET! Books. I think it's better and "cooler" to spend time in MPH than TGV. HAHAHAHA I crack myself up. I like the company Padini too as I like Vincci shoes.

10. I love starting something new-but only if I know it's not short term. If it's short term like using a new thick book I don't like it, but something long term like my life-another different story lah. ;)
